Just turbo vs. turbo which do you guys think would be better for a FWD 2G. Having lots of trouble deciding on which I should go with.
Don't ball bearing turbo's require lots of maintenance?
Is a GT-30R too big or what?

Gotta ask yourself how much hp you wanna make? 20g is good for 400hp, while a GT30 is good for damn near 500whp. Both are great turbos. One will cost you $800 for a new unit, and the other can cost you around the same price, or a LOT more, depending on which variant of the GT30 you want.
 
There are different types of 20G turbos but the one you want is the TD06H.

Its gonna cost you about as much as an FP GREEN or other 50 trim turbo.

You can definately hit the 400 mark with either.

When going as big as a 20G you should plan on running an external wastegate.

Price is gonna climb some but if you do it do it right.

If it were me.....I would get the TDO6H. 47LBS/min and full spool by 3700RPM.

Who's made a TD06H 20G? The biggest you can get that most vendors carry is the TD06 turbine wheel. Also, it's still cheaper than an FP Green. A bolt on 50 trim will be around the same price, but I don't care for either of the available turbine housings that come on the bolt on variety. If cost weren't an option, I'd go with a T3/T4 50 trim, with a .63 a/r hot side, Stg. III wheel.
 
Hmm... Good call on the FP TD06H 20G. Hadn't seen that. Off the shelf TD05H 20g will run you around $800 from most vendors. Getting an upgraded TD06 turbine wheel runs right around $1000 area. And now you have the TD06H option for $1265.
 
The TD06H-20g, also known as the Turbotrix "Street/strip" back in the day, is a great turbo. I had my Green with full 2.5", 550s, VPC, FMIC... and my friend had a TD06H-20G with identical supporting mods, we both ran 11.9s @ 117. Tort's car will be going from the TD05H-20G to a TD06H-20G this year, so we'll get a real good idea of what the difference in potential is between the two. Having seen 11.0 @ 123 with the TD05H wheel, It'll be interesting to say the least!
 
I say get the GT 30R but I am a little prejudice cause I have the Fp 3052. Great turbo so far and I am only running 14 pounds for now because of boost control problems. Lag is almost non existent, it starts to build + boost at 3000 rpms and with my setup it makes full boost right around 4000 rpm's. Great compressor wheel with awesome efficiency known to make 500whp on 93 octane. Look here for info
 
Well heres the deal, I'm just going to go with the 20G. The profile you see listed is his car..... I'm at his house and I wasn't thinking when I posted, forgot, that his mod list was going to show. He's going to sell me his 20G for $400.... you can't go wrong with that, I don't care who you are. He's pretty sure it's a TDO5H ( he bought it off of another friend of ours) but, it has that flat spot on the intake side like it shows on the picture of a TDO6H or does that appear on both the TDO5H and the TDO6H 20G's? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

I had the turbonetics MBC and I could never pin it down to a steady PSI. Sometimes I would get 14 psi in first and second gear then third and fourth it would shoot up to 25 psi....felt awesome but not something I want all the time. The more I tried to dial it in the more pissed off I was getting. I think the ball might have been stuck inside or the heat from under hood temps might have been affecting it some how. I had it mounted off the left corner of my valve cover with a bracket I fabbed up.

I have a Greddy profec b type s on order now.....so I shall see 20 psi or a little more soon.

The flat spot you're referring to simply indicates that it has a TD06 compressor cover, which is standard on most 20g's. The TD05H or 06H that people typically refer to, however, is the TURBINE wheel. The easiest way to tell which one it has is to pull the turbine housing off and measure it. ;)
