I recently installed a bigger front mount on my 1g, and now I'm having problems with giving it throttle and letting go. It almost seems like I am venting into the atmosphere, but I am not. I tried richening and leaning out on my afc, but it did no good. I unplugged the battery in hopes to reset ecu, but still no good. No boost leaks either because I sprayed carb choke cleaner all over my ic pipes and vacuums. Maybe bov is set to too hard or too soft? BOV is a greddy type s. Any one have any ideas???

A couple things I've noticed.

1. 255 is over running the stock fpr making your car run rich and make your tuning more difficult. Get yourself an afpr.

2. I didn't see a logger, wideban o2 or at least an EGT gauge, how are you tuning you safc? It's not good blindly adjusting the safc without a logger.

3. The carb cleaner method is good for checking a vacuum leak, not a boost leak. It's good for testing areas between the TB and intake valves. Do yourself a real boost leak test, http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html the problem you've described sounds like a boost leak, not a small one either. Good luck.

i haven't put the fuel pump in only because i am not ready to go tuning yet. after i tried messing with the safc and it didn't do me any good, i just set everything back over to -10 across the board. i will try the leak test. i can't believe it is a leak though only because i just changed the ic and nothing else. but it doesnt hurt to give it a shot.

thanks

I'm having the exact same problem. I need to do a boost/vacuum leak test, I guess. My car will hardly run at all unless I rev it. It won't idle at all. How do you do a vacuum leak test?

Three posts up. :p

I saw that, but I didn't get it. A boost leak test I can do, but I didn't quite understand the part about spraying the vac hoses with carb cleaner.

With the car at idle spray carb cleaner at vacuum hoses and gaskets around the intake manifold area, if there is a vacuum leak the rpm will change a little.

Oh, OK-- thanks. My problem is that the car won't idle-- it'll die.

Yeah, I have the same problem and am going to do a really efficient boost leak test soon. If you need to drive it till you get the leaks fixed just free rev the car till the engine gets close to normal operating temp. It should at least stay running then. If not your leaks are even worse then mine.

Well, my problem is fixed. Turns out the throttle body gasket between the TB and intake manifold was crooked. I had to take the IC elbow and TB off, reposition the gasket, and now life is good again.

Awsome, I hope I fix my leaks as easily as you did. I already have new gaskets ready to go. Just gotta build the tester now. :thumb:

I'm sure a boost leak test will be quite revealing for you. If I'd have been able to do one yesterday, it would've saved me several hours' worth of standing over the car wondering what the heck was wrong.
