I recently got an S-afc gen 1, the one with the nobs. When i first got my car, the ECu had already been tapped for an AFC so all I did was plug it in(after checking the car code and such). But when I did so, my idle became very screwy(it sounds like it was only running 2 cylinders, it even died twice) And this was with the nobs placed at 0%. Anyway we unpluged it and everything went back to normal. My questions are:
Was the ECU taped wrong?
Would reseting the ECU solve my problem?
Is my car not ready for an AFC? (Running 14b, with a 255 pump on stock injectors.)
Will upgrading to 550's solve my problem?
Is the AFC busted?

Sorry heh I know thats a lot, but I really need some sort of fuel controler, I am running really rich with that 255 pump and it is killing my gas mileage. THANKYOU!

That means that the AFC is dead (not likely) or more likely that the wiring was done wrong, or you plugged it in wrong. I would re-wire it, and make sure to do it right.

The 255 shouldn't make you run rich, except for at idle.

According to my A/F guage (Yes i know it isnt that accurate) But it says I am running 2 rich over normal just about all the time

Right, because you can tell you rich you are when the lights are blinky-blinking all over the place? I think not.

At idle or what. If its steady rich at throttle, idle and everything, then you have a bad o2 or your gauge came unhooked. Something doesn't seem right because a/f gauges are good for nothing. Don't you have a logger? If you look on there it will tell you o2 voltage. The CORRECT o2 voltage. Good luck figuring it out. Besides that I am not sure but I would def. rewire it.

I can't tell at low RPM's but just about anytime I step on the throttle I can tell that it is running rich, the style of A/F I have doesnt have the blinking lights. Anyway I figured out the problem. Since the car came tapped with the wires, the guy had to reconnect the airflow wires in order for the car to run, and when I plugged in the AFC they were still connected, plus getting funky readings from the AFC which must have caused it to run like shit. So i disconnected the wires plugged it back in and it runs like a champ.

Another question though:
for everyday driving, should I tune the to -%'s all throught out the powerband, or will I get really sluggish? I kind of just want it for everyday driving, then be able to set it for racing.
