i have heard alot about the Gtech pro comp and the beltronics vector FX2, and was wonderin if anyone has tried either or, and weather they liked or disliked about either. It has to be laptop compatable. All thoughts will be alot of help

the new generation of gtech type meters are pretty damn accurate, far better then the originals

if you dont have a track near you, and you like having lots of gizmos in your car that look cool, then get it, ive used a few different kinds and i do like them but i dont have 250 bux to spend to get a gtech pro

I have the new G-Tech Pro, and I have mixed feelings about it.

The new one is WAY better than the old one, it has many more functions, allows you to datalog your entries, and you can save multiple car profiles. I like the readout, it is easy to setup, and easy to retrieve the data. It even has a simulated dragstrip timing tree so you can practice your launches if need be.

There of course are a few downfalls. It is somewhat difficult to get consistent numbers, the only time that it nets very consistent results is when I am at the track. If you have the wide open space to do an entire quarter mile run, it will give you very good results. On the street, it is pretty difficult to find a place to stop, hit the button, wait for a second, then do a run. You can use it for 3rd gear pulls, but you have to start from a complete stop. If you are doing a short run, you can't launch the car because it will sometimes register that hard launch spike as true HP or torque.

All in all, it is an interesting little gadget. Unlike a dyno, you can see the affects of changes to the aerodynamics of the car. It will give you a more realistic view of your power on the street, but you really need a lot of room to go from 0 to over 100 mph. I own it, and use it occasionally, but it is definitely NOT a serious tuning tool. You can download your runs to your laptop, and you can see your mph in each gear, and the time spent in each gear, and various other graphs. If you are serious about drag racing, you can use it to see exactly what is going on in the car during a run, but it is kind of a pain in the ass to get your car staged, then hit the button on the G-Tech, then look back to the lights.

Let me know if you have any more questions about it...

I have had the old one for a long time. The parts I like are the cornering g's and the 0-60 timer.

I'm not too sure about these things, but i do know one thing. If it's consistent, then it's a valuable tuning tool. Have you ever seen the difference in horsepower between a mustang dyno and a dynojet dyno on the same car? I've see a 25hp difference between the two. What numbers the car is makinging isn't important to me as long as I have some decent times. What is important to me when tuning, is that I have consistent results. If you are 25hp low on a mustang dyno, what does it matter, as long as you show a gain or loss with each upgrade? I think the end number isn't as important as seeing if your work's impact. So if you think that they may be consistent, then buy one. just my .02

exactly. Mine has given me very repeatable results and they are just for my own knowledge when adding parts or tuning. Works well if you realize the intent of it.

A local camero (turboed) put down 760 whp on a dynojet dyno but he put down over 900 whp on a mustang dyno. He was trying to say that the wall 7 feet behind his car was killing his hp and that the mustang dyno had bigger fans. Yeah right.

I just purchased and received my Beltronics Vector FX2 and plan on setting it up this weekend. I hope to be able to gain knowledge of performace differences with new parts. So I agree with what was said above and I am not that concerned with real numbers as long as they are consistent.

Also I live in a small midwest town and any track is over one hour away. So this will be very helpful to insure that when I do drive all the way to the track I have had plenty of base runs and numbers to base my performance on.

I am also looking to buy the Vector FX2, but I am skeptical of the results. I noticed that someone mentioned that they are more accurate on NA cars than turbos? Is there anyone here that can confirm or deny that? Any help on these answers would be great!

Thanks!

I don't see how it could be any more or less accurate on a turbo car vs NA. The G-Tech (and probably the Vector as well) is consistent vs itself, ie several 3rd gear pulls will be similar, but aero differences and the heat from repeated runs will have an affect. Not a good tool if you are looking to see differences of 2-5%, as you will likely see errors of that magnitude in back to back runs. It will however show you if that extra 2 or 3 pounds of boost is making power, or pulling timing.

I just got the Vector FX2. It's ok. I use it mainly to practice my launches. I think it's a great tool to better your driving skills.

:talon:

I know i know they arent the most super acurate things. but i have a friends and we used it on 6 cars other than mine and got exactly what we thought they would put down. Did it on two cars taht have been dynoed and it was within 5 hp on both :D well the reason i bring this up is because, my car is pretty much stock, done the free mods. but my bost gauge only is hitting 3 lbs, so i thought i had a boost leak. I just relized when the car is off it reads 7 vacuum. so i guess the guage is broken(the stock is hitting 14). Any way i just Gteched it with the same one they all used and it pulled 217 from a launch and 222 from a 1st gear roll at 4,500 prm. The only thing is im running an open O2 housing with no exhaust. Has anyone else used one and had good results. does that power sound right for my choke choke mods choke choke Thanks for the responces, Dave

PS i ran a 1/8th mile block where we normally race on (.16) on the odometer, and i can get to 90 mph everytime. and i beat most cars ive run

I think it's a valuable tuning tool. For instance at what a/f ratio does your car make the most power 11:1 11.5:1 12:1,with the G-Tech you can moniter g-forces and torque and horsepower at different a/f ratios to see what your setup likes. If your logging with a wideband you can compare a/f ratios with the g-forces your pulling at any rpm. While the numbers may not match any dyno the run to run variation is extremely accurate.

I've heard you can get the Gtech pro used on eBay for $50. Seems to be there lots of different variations and am not sure which one to get.
