i have a question. i want to get a vpc from hks to get rid of my mas. but.. i dunno bout spending so much money on one. also another reason why i want one, is cuz the previous owner took the tube off the blow off that vents the blo off into the intake. when i put the clutch in after speeding up the engine almost dies, cuz of the split second richness in the a/f mix. i want to be able to vent the blow off into the atomosphere, so i figure the vpc is a prime choice. that and its tuning capabilities. is it worth it though? i dont have many mods yet, and plan to keep the stock turbo for a lil longer. i iwll be getting a 3 inch exhaust soon, but after that i am not sure if i iwill get cams and cam gears (timing belt needs changing soon, i figure kill 3 birds with one stone) or anythig else for a while. suggestions?

Anything that you can do to get rid of that crappy MAF on a 1G is a good thing. Get a 2G maf and AFC (cheapest), or a VPC or a PMS with the Upgraded Hotwire MAF. Going from the STock MAF to the blow thru PMS on took off 100-200 rpms off my spool, also could hear the turbo more.

To make it easy on yourself get the wire harness with the sensor. I do not have the link, but there is one out there that tells you what aire is what. AS long as you can solder or something equal you can do it. The 2G maf has gone low 11's fr sure and I think even into the 10's.

thanks man, but it dont show the models on the left side with the cars. i have no idea wiether its a gs, rs, gst, or gsx. it would be funny gettin an rs mas. hehehe. nope.

That's where mine came from. They guarantee them for 30 days to make sure you don't get a bad one.

Excellent service. I've ordered from them twice and both times had a great experience.

Also, for what it's worth, I had a VPC and didn't like it and sold it for the 2gmas/SAFC combo, which I am very happy with. If you get a VPC I think you NEED a GCC or a SAFC for it to work well. But for the money if you have to buy a SAFC anyway, you might as well use just the SAFC and have a less complicated setup. Less complicated = less problems.

i love my vpc/afc combo. it allows me to add and remove more fuel than even a vpc gcc combo. car runs and idles smooth. turbo spools insanely fast. no restriction in front of the turbo:D

Many have gone low 11's on a hacked 1g mas. People think that you cant go fst on them, but you really can. Its all about tuning my friends. If you know how to tune you can go fast for very cheap.

I'm thinking about buying one, what else can the vpc do besides letting you vent to the atmosphere and replace the mas?

The HKS VPC is designed to physically and electronically replace OE air metering devices which present a significant restriction to the intake system and offer no adjustment or reprogramming options to take advantage of dramatically higher air flow or larger fuel injectors. The VPC converts both air flow meter and air mass sensor systems to what is referred to as speed density systems by utilizing a 16 bit central processing unit reading its own intake air temperature sensor and absolute pressure transducer (B-MAP sensor) signals. This unique conversion feature not only allows the VPC to replace the factory air flow metering device, but also eliminates the need for a fuel cut defencer. Another benefit of the VPC is the ability to create our own programs to take advantage of larger fuel injectors and new air flow characteristics (larger turbos). In some specific instances, the VPC may be used in addition to the PFC F-Con and larger injectors for the ultimate in HKS plug-in fuel system technology. VPC equipped vehicles respond quicker with improved horsepower. Controls those monster injectors as well!

The switch from the VPC to the 2g mas did not change my spool up at all and netted me no significant performance gain/loss.

VPC w/ Hard compressor intake pipe with filter in stock location. Best time = 13.905

2gMAS + SAFC w/ Hard compressor intake pipe with filter in stock location. Best time = 13.908

Perhaps changing from a stock intake pipe to the hard one most commonly used with the VPC would explain your increase in "spool time". Also adding the VPC may have changed your fuel tuning in some way which resulted in the things you experienced. You probably had to redo most of your SAFC settings

yeah, kinda weird, if you spend the money on a vpc, why not keep it?

I bought a 90 parts car for $400 and traded the transmission out of it to someone for the VPC. I tried the VPC and didn't like how the car behaved with it, so I bought the 2gmas/safc setup and gave it a try for a few weeks and liked it much more than the VPC and the car ran every bit as fast, but was far less finicky.

So I sold the VPC and came out ahead dollar wise and had a setup I found to be superior for my application.

dood, i heard of people running 13's with the stock 14b. there was a guy here in el paso texas running 13's, like 13.1 and sh!t. he only had a fuel computer and boost controller and a 3 inch exhaust.

13.9 with a VPC and a Big 16G.................... thats awful....

what is the whole setup that you are running anyways?

4600' of altitude tends to do that do people. Stock vipers run mid 13's Stock Fbods run high 14's/low 15's. Suposedly our air sucks here and people run a couple tenths slower than at Bandimere. It's probably our perpetual inversion.

We've got a local guy running low 13's on a 14b, but he also has a FMIC and spends a great deal of time replacing broken drivetrain parts.

The fastest local on a big 16/race gas/SMIC/Nitto 555's on all four ran a best of 12.9 averaging 1.6x 60' times. I'm not sure how consistant it was.

mmmmm 91 octane pump gas.
