Any info on DSMLink Ver. 2?

Hey. I emailed Thomas D. at DSMlink and apparently V2 is coming out in September, so I can't buy one until then. The website isn't updated yet to talk about version 2, and I am currently not a DSMlink owner yet, so I can't get on the Yahoo group.

Anyone know anything about version 2? What's new? What changed? Did they get rid of anything? Any info will be helpful. Thanks.

Forgot to ask this: is there Palm sofware for V2?

E-mail Tom he can give you more specifics on what new options will be with V2. Also, I do believe that you will be able to run V2 on a Palm.

iron

He gave me a basic list of what V2 will have, but i didn't want to keep asking him questions on specifics. I figured people from the DSMlink yahoo group could put some info on this thread. Other people are probably wondering what V2 will have as well.

So far, I know it will have nitrous controls, and a mod that will let you keep the gas down to shift (very cool, but I have an A/T so I won't be able to use it).

Cant the Ver 1 allready be run with a palm. Anybody know if it will be same price?

Version 1 does have palm software. I emailed Tom and said i wanted to buy one yesterday, but asked if there was going to be a new version coming out soon and he said september...so i'm gonna wait.

Good question...will the price be the same?

Probably not, but those details havent been released yet. I know Im anxiously awaiting the word as to how much the upgrade from V1 to V2 is going to be.

Tom at DSMlink emailed me back. He is saying it will be a little bit more expensive...he didn't say how much though, so they probably haven't decided on a price yet.

If you haven't seen or didn't know, the DSM Link V2 info is up on the DSM Link Homepage. I have V1 and will for sure be getting V2 as soon as it's out there. I do know that V2 is bad ass!! I've seen some of it in person.

Thanks for letting me know...i was waiting for the new site to go up.

MAF comp:

Allows the user to "dial in" changes made to the air metering system (hacked MAF, bypass tube, or GM MAFT type unit).

What does that mean? I can use a gm mas without the translator box?

I doubt it but what would we need to "dial in" if we already have full control over our fuel trims?

that'd be so bad ass if i didnt have to spend $200 for a translator...but the essence of the translator (from what i can tell) is not its ability to adjust the fuel curve, etc. but its ability to take what the chevy maf sees and translate it to "words" the mitsu ecu can understand.

Maybe they are just telling the ECU what the GM MAF outputs mean so it can run on it.

With a stock MAF a given frequency means a certain airflow.

A GM maf has a different frequency at the same airflow.

Thats why you need the translator. Even if the DSMlink did that, you still need the translator to connect the GM MAF to the stock MAS connector.

Actually if the voltage scale is the same but only the frequency different the guys at DSM link should have no problem making it run directly from a GM maf.

They just change the ECU's programing to read the GM mafs frequency scale and use that info. There is a minimum and maxmimum frequency output. Minimum is the lowest airflow it can read. Max is overrun. If you know ECU's and code as well as these guys likely do its easy.

Have a laptop but will be building a pc into the car.

I'll find a cheap eprom ECU. Connections.

Solder in the socket myself.

You still need a laptop for EMS or haltech.

If you are too tight for a GM Maf use speed density. V2 can do that too.

The core processor of the factory ECU can do the job. It just is'nt changable from OE settings unless its a link eprom unit.

I can probably do link, GM maf, wideband o2 and a bunch of other stuff myself for less thant the cost of a stand alone.

A standalone is not needed really, unless you have a drag only car with barely any stock parts and your making wel over 500hp and trying to get into the single digits...then a standalone is perfect. for most people, you really dont need it...it is better, but you don't need it. and tuning with it is a pita.

I think in the right hands link can even do single digits.

Some people will never break it no matter what parts you give them.

I'd rather get the ems or haltech.

ill sell ya my eprom ecu for 250 :thumb:

I emailed DSMlink today and asked these questions. Hopefully they will get back to me. This option would be really nice and save $200 on the translator device.

"A lot of DSMers are starting to use the Hot Wired GM MAF's with a translator device by Ramchargers to interpret the MAF's signal that the ECU can read. I saw that the V2 has a lot of adjustments/extrapolations for MAF overrun/hacking. This would all be irrevelent if using the MAF translator combo. Do you plan on developing an option so that the ECU can directly read the signal from the GM Maf without the translator. All that would be needed as far as hardware is a GM MAF and the GM plug which could be bought separately. "

You need the translator to connect the stock MAF wires to the GM MAF...the GMMAF only has 3 wires.

Using a GM MAFT is lying to the ECU much like tuning with an SAFC. Not really lying I guess, but not reporting the same information and a unmodified 2g mas, which is what the ECU is expecting. The airflow adjustments allows you to fine tune the car back to stock like levels and then make adjustments with the DSMLink for fuel and timing.

It also allows you to compensate for 2.3L/2.4L motors by hiding air (~20%) that the bigger motor sees all the time and keeps the car on the correct fuel and timing tables.
