Does it matter if my shift light is on my tac or independent?

Hey guys. I am about to purchase a 1990 5 speed GSX and I wanted to get a shift light for it. I was wondering does it make a difference if I buy a shift light that is independent from the tac? Or should I just buy an entirely new tac that comes with a shift light? Personally I like the independent ones that you just stick somewhere, but I wanted to get you guys opinion on it. Also I was wondering is the independent one not as accurate or anything? I mean is there any loss in performance by not having it on the actual tac?

Shiftlight on tach = +20hp
Shiftlight by itself = +10hp

But other than that, electrically, it doesnt make a bit of difference if you have them mounted together or separately. The electronics in them will work the same regardless, with no loss in accuracy.

You are just angry because the light by itself isnt good for as much power.

no,just tired of the whole RICE attitude.but that does not matter.he's asking for info on a light, not how much RICE you think it will ad!soo, grow up and maybe post something useful:thumb:

now,on a positive side.a friend of mine a while back did a custom install.he cut a hole in a way that the light was sticking thru the left side of his dash(shining inside his gauge cluster)it was cool cause you could not see the light itself, but you could not miss it at redline.:D ill see if i can find a pic

If you really want to clean this place up, you could start by ejecting all the little kids. By kids, I mean the ones who start pissing matches by saying "JERK", "your ignorant"(spelling error intentional, an example of their stupidity), "grow up"(something they find insulting because their mommy and daddy tells them that all the time), oh, and anything that numbnut igs posts.

dsm5150, I posted something useful, I told him it'd work. You didn't post anything useful, just something redundant, some immature comment about rice, and an 6th grade level insult. :thumb:

As much as you like to throw around the dreaded R word, shiftlights really do work best when mounted closer to the drivers line of vision without obscuring it. Gauge cluster mounted ones may look more cool or less RICE or whatever you want to call it, but an above dash mounted one is more effective in a real race situation. Not that that matters for you, not looking like RICE seems to take a backseat to functionality. Ironically, letting form be more important than function is exactly what I would say RICE is.
