I am having problems with knock at only 14psi. I am getting 12 counts of knock in second gear at WOT. I am very supprised that I am knocking at all because I was told that you can raise boost to 15 psi on stock fuel and 16 psi with just a pump. I was having a problem with phantom knock in first gear but I think it is somewhat gone. A week ago, I did a run on the datalogger and it said I was getting 43 counts of knock in first and it would dwindle to 6counts in second gear. I still get knock while reving in neutral but not as much as before. Do you think my knock is still phantom knock or do you think it is now real knock? Here is the newest log (attached)

My current mods are:

k&n filter, hallman mbc at 14psi, small 16g turbo, blitz bov, buschur upper ic pipe, ported o2 housing with dumptube, 2.5-3" downpipe, 3" testpipe, 3" mandrel cat back, hks type 0 turbo timer, boost and a/f gauges, and a datalogger

not installed:

safc, walbro 255 hp pump, 2g exhaust manifold

Do you think I am starting to run out of fuel or if this is still part of phantom knock? I want to get the phantom knock fixed before I get back on the performance track. Is there any info that you think I still need to log? Sorry, I am new to tuning. Thanks in advance.

Huh. I cannot get the log to come up. I will try to get my friend to post it later for me.

No, not yet. I am going to buy a AFPR with a new OEM feul filter soon from a local seller so I can see if that helps. I will install the AFPR and walbro 255 at the same time and wait on the safc until I get the 660's in a week.

I am not sure if this is knock from the boost level I am running or not.

I just started logging my 94 TSi AWD. It has similar mods in comparison to your 92 TSi. Right off the bat, I confirmed atleast one major problem (that I've suspected for some time)... I was seeing 15-20 knock counts via my pocketlogger running the MMCD software at idle (950rpm), when I just started it up cold. The 15-20 count would stay there until that f*ckin ticking from my dirty/old style lifters went away after about 5-15 minutes of running the motor at idle or I got in it and reved the engine up to about 2500-3K rpm a couple of times.

This lifter tick was being interpreted by my ECU as being knock! and the ECU starts yanking timing/fuel/boost (well it trys to yank boost).

This action caused all sort of wierd fluctuations in idle, sudden stumble just after acceleration, poor fuel economy, ect, ect..

I read an interesting article from another DSMer (think he's on this post), so I'll forward the link... It also has some interesting info on the 3-3.5" GM MAF conversion... www.geocities.com/ftrkeaka -Click on the TECH ARTICLES on the LEFT

I'll be R&Ring my nOisY-aSS lifters this weekend for the 1st time. I will attempt to clean them first, prior to buying the new and improved models, as according to the author of the link above, they aren't cheap (like 12-18 bux a pop x 16 = WAY to much for me to be spending on lifters. He continues to add that Mitsu didn't actually install any of these updated lifters in any of the 1 or 2G DSMs).

I'll let you all know what I find sometime after this weekend.
