Ok i’m having a problem with my TMO logger and my lap top. The guy I bought my car from gave the TMO software and cable with it (just to let you know I didn’t burn $300 for it). My laptop doesn’t have a serial port so I went out and bought a USB to serial adapter but it still don’t work. I have the latest version and my lap top has windows ME. I’m wondering if anyone can help me to get this to work. I know the cable works fine because hooked it up to my PC and it worked fine but i cant tune the car sitting in my garage.

Have you talked to the vendor? My guess is no. Moved to tuning talk.

Windows ME.... ewww.

I've heard nothing but bad things about millenium edition.
What OS does your PC have? I have a feeling the problem is with the OS and not the cable. Just an idea.

I have emailed them called them, left messages but no call back or return emails. So guess what? You guessed wrong.

My PC has windows 2000. Sometimes it says datalogger connected but it still says link down and it dosnt show any information. I heard that the USB to serial cable can be a little iffy at times.

Serial to usb is definately Iffy. Your best bet might be to grab up a cheap laptop from ebay for 50-60 and load doze 98. More than likely it is the interface.

no you can use any windows above 95. i use 98, my friend uses xp and another uses 2000

see here is the thing an adapter just changes the way the signal works so there is more then likely the problem. not with os but with the adapter. the adapter may be good but won't work on this case.

Then you haven't TALKED to the vendor. Thanks for playing, and good luck. :thumb:

TMO isn't even in business anymore so he can't talk to the vendor.

USB to serial adapters DO not work for streaming data applications. I tried to use one to connect to my AEM and they simply do not work.

You need a new laptop or a PCMCIA serial card. In fact, I have one sitting right here, brand new, in the box if you want it. They are normally $110-200 but I'll unload it for $50 since I no longer have a use for it.

just to let you know, i have a laptop that has been sitting up since i got my desktop PC and it came loaded with winME. i reformatted before i used it as a logger and i have no problems with it. except for TMO sucks and is outdated in my opinion. I would just get a palm and the pocketlogger software if i were you.

usb to serial will not work. just so ya know =) sorry.

Hey just a heads up, I was just searching and I came across this thread. I have TMO installed on my Windows XP laptop which uses a USB to serial converter since it has no serial ports. It works fine. I just had to go into device settings and change the Com port setting. It was set by XP as Com 7 or 9, somethin crazy, but TMO wants to use Com 1 - 4. Made the switch, then it was good to go! :thumb:
Dunno if anyone out there is even using this software... i'm a little late to the show and its new fun stuff for me :)

I would also recommend changing the serial port to COM1 then try. Also for the love of God ditch Win Me! Go windows 98SE or 2000/XP. Windows Me is the worst OS microsoft has ever released. I'd wrather run 95 then Me.

I work for a computer company and when people can and say I'm running Me. I usually say well thats your problem. Truthfully it usually is!

Ok i have the same problem but how can I switch the COM ports in XP for the TMO software. I have a COMPACT laptop that doesn't have any COM ports so I bought a USB/COM connector and I couldn't get this to work for the life of me. No matter what COM port I try I get COM port in use or busy. I seen that it asked for COM4 and tried that and it read no signal or power from the datalogger :(

Gump1976 if you rather talk off board to help me, get me by email [email protected] or Yahoo IM talontsi2169 .

thx in advance :)

i use tmo.

my laptop has a serial port, but i had to use a db9 adapter or else my cable wouldn't transmit data. I also had to use a gender changer adapter as well. But the db9 adapter (radio shack) was the shiznit once i figured out that was the problem.

First I would check inside Device Manager within XP after you connect the usb to serial converter, under "Ports", to see which COM# that XP has assigned it. Another thing I had to do was to change TMO's compatability in XP to run with Windows 98 compatibility. To do this, right click on the TMO icon on the desktop and click Properties. Click the Compatibility tab. Once inside you will need to check "Run In Compatibility Mode" then use the drop down box to select Windows 98. good luck.
