I took a long trip this weekend. Cruising along at 80 MPH (3K) the EGT's were 1400. I took a quick look with the logger and it was showing .4-.5 v. I adjusted the AFC so it was up to .7 but then the damn palm died.

I am curious to know if this is normal. With such little throttle and high RPM's should I have those readings?

I must add, when I made it a little richer, the car acted funny sometimes. If I was at say 30% throttle, and suddenly back of to about 10% the car would stumble a little bit. I am starting to think that the lean running was normal and making it richer was upsetting it.

Can you clarify on the .4 .5v since your O2's should be fluxuating at cruise. I don't know F to C conversion off hand, but that sounds reasonable. At 80mph, I usually see around 760-780C.

1400F ~760C so I am on par with you.

Ok, I didn't know that. I am going to Baltimore this coming weekend and will have a competant data veiwer with me (my GF hates helping me and my friend is coming on the this trip)

Thanks for the help.

My EGT's cruising at 80mph in 5th are around 800-820c.
Is that too high?

WTF?

I already answered this question, and I answered it RIGHT HERE IN THIS THREAD.

In the third post here, right near the top, I said:

"Don't use EGT's and O2 to tune at cruise, use the fuel trims"

That was a good enough answer for Omega, did you need to read it twice?

Driving up the big mountain by Los Angeles, my coolant temp gauge
rises up near the red area and my EGT's go to 850-890c at part-throttle,
doing around 75mph.

Reducing speed to 60-65mph and turning on my heater brought the
gauges down a bit.

Is this normal? Anyone else tend to overheat driving up big mountains?

When tuning part-throttle, you may not want to pay attention to your
EGT's, but for the safety of the car, I think they should always be
taken in consideration.

Ya know, the more I tune, the more I realize that the O2 sensor (NON WB) is just another idiot light. I almost wish I never bought it.

It really only tells you if your engine is about to explode, and if the gauge is reading that high, damage has already done and there is nothing you can do.
