I would like to know what the best devices you need to get the most out of a 1g dsm? Is using a s-afc only worth anything or is a logger a must? Is a logger good enough by itself? I would like some good answers to these questions not some smart-a$$ remarks please. Also, is using a 2g maf easier to tune with these devices verses the 1g? Thanks to all of those who reply.

A logger should be the very first thing you get. It allows you to make sure the engine is running properly before you start adding all your other stuff. If your setup is already out of whack, adding more performance parts to it will just make it worse, not better. Once you get it running good, then add the performance stuff, then you can tune it using the logger.

Logger is a monitoring device. AFC is a control device.

I would not recommend it, but yes you could.

Sure you can. You can adjust it as far as you want without the logger. Will it be right though? How will you know? They always feel the fastest right before they go BOOM!
You could try to tune with an EGT gauge, or an AF ratio gauge. Both are poor substitutes for a logger, and the logger is somewhere in the same ballpark pricewise as either of these. Might as well get a logger, its a tried a true method to get where you want to be. Or you could tune with a Magic 8ball, they are pretty cheap.

Here are the questions you need answered:
Am I too rich? too lean?
Are my fuel trims good?
Am I getting knock?
Is my timing good?

The EGT and AF ratio gauges wont answer all of these, only the logger or magic 8 ball will answer them. Ideally you will get those questions answered before you even start modding the car, so that you have a good baseline to start off with. So go ahead and get the logger or magic 8 ball first.

Good Luck:thumb:
