So here is the deal guys about 4 days ago on my way home from work I noticed that I had higher EGTs then I have ever noticed before. So I got on it, and before I even hit 5K I was almost up to 16, so I backed off. I watched my a/f guage it stays rich, and when I datalog with DSMLink it show no signs of knock or me running lean? Any ideas, cause I am not sure what to think on this one.

Thanks

How old is the EGT probe?

Brad

Haven't had a chance to log that yet, but will definitely check the timing when we datalog.

The EGT probe has about 3000-4000 miles on it I would say.

what kind of gauge in the get when i hear the number 16 i thinks its an autometer which is the wrong gauge for our cars get a greddy well worth the $$$$ and keeps the same size hole in the manifold

It's an autometer EGT gauge with a TRE probe. And NO it's not the wrong gauge for our cars. It reads to 1600 degrees, and 1650 is the hottest someone would ever want to run, so I'll tune to top out at 1600 and be safe. No Greedy EGT for me, too much $$$.

Ok, just for reference, the TRE EGT probe is an exposed junction probe. That is what gives it a very quick response. The downside of an exposed junction probe is that it doesnt last as long. The TRE probe is a great EGT probe, and a very good price.

You were getting up to 870 degrees celsius, which by itself isnt necessarily something to worry about. What were your EGTs before? What sort of timing do you have? What fuel, and what is your target AF ratio there?

You said you would check timing the next time you datalog. Does that mean that you havent datalogged since it started doing this? And did you do anything recently to the car, or did they just seem to start getting high all of a sudden?

Brad

Ok, base timing was at 0 degrees, so I retarded it back to -5 degrees, still had the same problem. As soon as you go WOT, the EGTs shoot up. Also while watching the datalogs, timing goes from normal 28-30 degrees to as low as 2 degrees as soon as you go WOT. It doesn't show a LOT of knock, but there is anywhere between 3-5 degrees of knock retard. Also the O2 voltage goes from cycling normally at cruise, down to zero at WOT. I made sure all the timing marks were lined up, that was perfect. Had to put in a new set of spark plugs. The #4 cylinder was flooded because the spark plug was messed up, the tip was stretched away from the plug a LOT, which was gapped to .28 when they went in a couple months ago.
So I'm thinking a problem with the fuel pump or injectors is making the car run really hot. Is there a way to test the fuel pump besides watching to see what pressure it is running under boost? Any other suggestions will be helpful. This car is killing me, and it's not even mine!!!

That should be your problem, you want your base timing set 5 degree advance. Retarded timing makes your egt's higher.

Check it with a timing light, your have too much timing retard and fuel is igniting in the manifold.

Shit sorry I worded that wrong. It's +5 degrees at idle, checked with a timing light. Sorry about the confusion!
