Gainesville,
i'm new to this board since the SE.DSM.ORG board is broken. anyways here's the question: has/does anybody use an aircraft EGT gauge? i would guess that it's fairly high quality since it's used in planes. the gauge is specifically a westech gauge. PN#2C2 and can be found at aircraftspruce.com. the gauge reads in degrees C up to 1600. that's what the autometer gauge reads and this one's about half the price for the gauge and probe. Brad Bauer uses it on his faq page.

I've used Westach on a blown 510, worked fine. And Westach is a terrific company to deal with, one of the good ones- I used to live 8 miles from their shop, and have met the boss. Only "problem" is that they're not so blingy-blingity as automotive units, which some people prefer. I'm not sure how their sensor will fit in the DSM manifold.

My Westach setup (EGT gauge and probe) worked excellent. The probe was very fast at sending the info. The gauge was pretty plainjane, but did the job cheaply and effectively. I just replaced it with an autometer unit, just to match the other gauges. But the Westach will go into my other DSM. Nothing wrong with any of their products.

thanks for the input, i think i'm gonna go with the westech. i don't need anything very fancy, just something functional and budget minded to tune with. two final questions, do you know if it will fit in a standard a-pillar gauge cup? also what temp range should i get - is 1600 degrees C enough?

it will fit in a normal gauge pod no problems. As for the range, I believe the 400-1700F unit is perfect for DSM tuning as you would like to shoot for 1650F when tuning.

Either you're typoing (is that a word?) or you are confusing C and F. The Autometer gauge is to 1600 Fahrenheit (F). I bet the Westach one is too, but I don't know. The metric gauges usually go to about 1000 C (which is a little over 1800 F), I think, but I don't have a metric gauge. Mine goes to 1800 F, which I like since I like to have some "extra" at the end. In fact, I've already had mine up to 1700. OMG Yeah, not good. Most people seem satisfied with 1600 F gauges, though.
