I have not posted here for quite awhile so I am sorry if this is in the wrong area. I ran a [email protected] with 110 race fuel and using the pocket logger these are the setting that I had for high throttle...
1000- -5
2000- -3
3000- 0
4000- +5
4500- +9
5000- +9
6000- +7
7000- +9

My EGTs were at 880 every run. My low throttle was at 0 across the board. I am wondering if there is anything I can do to improve on this for the next event. Also I am now back on 91 octane and was wondering how much I should change the settings Hi and Low?? Thanks alot guys. My 60' was a 1.840. Eli

What are you using for tuning it? Do you have a logger?
Typically when used to go with my old setup and put in race fuel i would write down my current setting, then lean it out 10% across the board in high throttle and use that as a base to start some logs with.

I am using the new version of the pocketlogger. That is a great tool. What I am wondering is do I dare lean it out a little more? and should I leave my low settings at 0? Now I am on 91 and just want to know what would be a good setting. Time to log again:thumb: . Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Well you are the only one that can determine that as you are the one logging. What are your o2's looking like on the 110? What kind of timing and knock sum are you getting? Exhaust temps are a LOT less important to me that the above. But if thats the way you tune then try leaning it out (leaner is meaner :]) and getting it up to 900c, just watch you knock levels.

You should however try to tune it best on pump first then when you go to the track try what I said with leaning it out and go from there, just make sure you mark your setting to start on when you go back to squirrel piss. There isnt to much to be had with tuning on the low part if you have stock injectors. You have to find out what setting is best for you, not me or anyone else as "every car is different"...

There is a link in my sig to a tuning guide. Go there, and read it. Then, when you are comfortable, use the logger to tune the low throttle settings.

After thoe are done, use the methods outlines in said file to tune the high settings (for pump gas).

When you are happy with your pump gas tune, you can tune it for race fuel. I would suggest you start by pulling about 10% (minus 10%) or so off every rpm point on the high map.

However, it can be even simpler than this. I'm not sure why you're paying so much attention to EGT's, and none to the logger, but that's backwards. Just tune to knock on the logger. Lean it out until it starts to knock, then richen it up as point or two.

Enjoy. OMG)

So, when running race gas, just tune off the logger as you normally do on pump gas??? Meaning I'm just going to watch for knock and when I hit it, richen it up a bit?

I'm asking because I don't have an EGT gauge??

Tune for knock, just like you would on pump gas. Race gas just allows you to run the SAFC leaner for more timing advance.

Kyle,

I'm not trying to hijack this but I've got a similar question. When you say start by leaning out 10% I assume you mean if he's keeping the boost the same? Is there a rule of thumb for when you turn up the boost? For example: I'm successfully tuned on 94 pump for 20 PSI. Now I want to run 25 PSI on C16. Any starting advice. Its so busy there, I'll be lucky to get 2 runs so thats why I'd like to be close on the first one!!

I do the same thing; I run 18 psi on the street, and about 24 psi at the track. What has worked for me is to lean it out about 3-5% using 110 octane. But that's just what works for my big 16G/ upgraded sidemount, so YMMV.

You're not "running the safc leaner", you're lowering the airflow signal hz count to the ecu, which puts it into a different timing map. You need to run a low IPW on race fuel than pump fuel (for the same conditions) because of the difference in the specific gravity of the two fuels.

You can start by leaning it out 10%, even if you are turning up the boost. This just changes the correction factor used within the SAFC, which is indirectly linked to the A/F ratio.
