Yes, your ecu is opening up your injectors like they are 550s, but your injectors are only flowing like 450s, so less fuel is being put into the cylinder. Its really not too hard of a concept to understand.
 
In that sense I should assume the ECU is telling the car to compensate for the fuel with more air and it is lacking the ability to provide the fuel.

Well the ecu won't compensate air, it compensates with fuel or timing. But yes, you'll eventually run out of headroom with your current injectors and they will be unable to provide more fuel. Either swap in 550s or a stock chip, and be done with it.
 
My wideband is reading 15-17afr at idle.. and will die sometimes also at idle.. I swapped my chipped ECU with a stock 90 ECU and it is still running lean.. Also changed the fuel pump with a walbro 255. I did a boost leak test and found that i have a leaky injector #1 i hear and smell fuel coming out during the test..Also the maf is not hacked and still has both honeycombs.. What would cause this too still lean out?? Any help is appreciated thanks...
 
fix the leaks, did you have a log on link, if you have link select for the fuel injectors you have, is it a eprom?
