need help connecting to ECM link

I just purchased ECM link V.3 from a guy locally I seem to be haveing troubble connecting all the drivers and programs are installed and I am getting power to pin 16.

When I plug the cable in it flashes

It says:trying to connect
reading extened setup record v1
no responce recieved
 
Have you tried the different com ports?

Try browsing the Link forums for things other people tried. That's what I've done the few times I've had connections issues. It always ended up being simple...
 
Turn off the laptop and leave the ignition key on the ON position, then turn on the laptop and see if it detects link.
That's the only thing that comes to my mind, If it doesn't work you will get better help at Link Forum

It's detecting it the cable lights up and actually connects for a millisound this took 5 shots before I captured picture of it. The guy said he ran it on a mac with no issues.

just upgraded to 3.20.246 and it connects
