Ok guys. i've read a sh** load of posts, and im still a little fuzzy on what i need to get started. for now i would like to adjust my boost/fuel cut, fine tune my injectors. i guess my main question is, seeing how i have a 99 ecu, do i NEED dsmlink in order to datalog and change some things, seeing how the 99's are re-flashable??? i was looking at evoscan and a few other things, but dont seem to be newby-friendly... any advice or recommendations are wanted and welcome!!! thanks

DSMlink seems like some really nice software but if you have a 99 GST it would be a lot cheaper going with the Ceddymods and the ECUFlash setup.

ECUFlash isn't as scary as it looks, just don't go changing anything your not sure of.

You do not need DSMlink. You need EVOScan, ECUFlash (free program), the Tactrix 2.0 cable with the flash plug, a laptop, and a wideband.

Training Videos: How to tune an Evo with EcuFlash - evolutionm.net

Look at the videos in the link. Very useful info. Granted it's from EVOs, but the same thing applies to the flashable ECU's in our cars.

I learned a lot from those videos as well. Very informative.

Dont feel bad man. Im in the same boat, I feel I know a lot about these cars but when it comes to tuning Im just like 0_o uhhhh.. But yes if I read your first post correctly, youve already got the things that cost money (evoscan and the cable). ECUflash is free and you just have to download it onto your laptop.

awesome info guys... Thanks a bunch. One more thing... A wideband o2.... Which o2 sensor does that replace? The one on the o2 housing, or after the cat? The one on my o2 housing has quit working, and I really need to replace it soon. Since I have to get another one anyway, could I use the wideband here, or is it specifically designed for after the cat? (Actually I dont have a cat anymore, since I just recently installed my 3'' downpipe)

read through most of it, but still not clear on which port the wideband is supposed to be in. o2 housing or after the cat....

Alot of useful info though when I finally get to that point....

Thanks...

Neither. Unless you're running something like an LC-1 and have the cable to simulate narrowband to the ecu. I'd just replace your front o2 sensor with a new one, then take your car to an exhaust shop and have them weld an o2 bung just after the o2 housing a little ways to put the wideband o2 in.

Exactly what I was gonna say
+1

I was under the impression if you were running a cat delete DP, then you could use the rear o2 bung for the wideband and the WHITE wire from the wb harness would be spliced into pin 75..

can anyone verify/comment on this? If this works, than that is exactly what I'll do.
