Does any body get Hot Rod magazine? They have a article this month on a 2.0 liter turbo engine with direct injection. They say the fuel rail pressure is over 750 up to 2,200 psi!~!WTF

You can buy kits for some cars now. Like Saturn sky, Solstice, Colbalt, HHR just to name a few. They claim using direct injection on a 2.0 colbalt engine, they can pull 260 hp, and more on torque! Thats impressive. Here is a article I found searching about it.

I'll post scans of the article in Hot Rod later. The future is here! They talk about the system having a adjustable fuel timing, next to cam phasing, and ignition timing as even more tuning tools that can be dynamically adjusted. I could go on about this stuff, I'll get that article scan up SASAP!
 
Mazda 3 turbos already have this system stock. They where able to run a lot higher compression since the fuel is atomized so well and helps fight knock. It also doesnt have a return fuel line.
 
Yea, it's only the turbocharged models 2008-2009. They make 260hp stock. A quick tune gets them up around 280-290.

I was wondering how they manage to be so quick down low (besides the slightly bigger engine)
 
The turbo cobalts already do this from the factory. I'm unsure about the Supercharged ones.


Right, they sell a kit for these cars too. The list of cars that have that engine is growing. I'd like to see how much one of these install kits cost.

Upgrading to larger injectors must cost an arm, a leg, and your first born child.

So, you've already read the August issue of Hod rod also? Because the article is brand new to the tuning market. I'll be getting the scan up today.

Thats the point. You won't ever need to upgrade. If they pull 260 hp. From 750 or so fuel PSI, I'd imagine You'd have enough of pressure at 2,200 psi at hand. This kit has a pressure adjustment.:sneaky: Increase pressure, increase the amount of fuel injection@!

Ever see a stock cummins with a big turbo and a spool tune? Worse than seafoam!
Good thing turbo diesel's have been preping the market for a very long time.

Where do you think turbochargers came from?

Try uploading it someplace and giving us a link. We can't afford the real magazine.

I think one of the early challenges to direct cylinder injection was keeping the nozzles clean enough, and of course the temperature\pressure issues. And I doubt it'd work with leaded gasoline.
 
the whole direct injection system is designed by Bosch in my solstice gxp. I bet it's the same as the vw. even the ecu is a Bosch. it also has a K04 BW turbo.

Let me clarify. Go buy a direct injection turbo car and see how much you can mod it. The limitation will be the injectors. The benifits of direct injection are cruising, and light throttle afr's being able to be really lean for a turbo engine.
