I've done searching and can't seem to find anyone with this problem or whatever.

My palm was stolen, but the serial cable connected to the car was left alone and in tact. The Palm worked flawless on the car with MMCD. I read that thread in the tech articles about using a laptop. I had a old laptop I wasn't using and I installed XP Mini on it and a bunch of tuning software to look over them and what not. I installed the palm emulator and MMCD. This is a straight up Serial connection on the laptop. I got a gender changer from Radio Shack and connected the serial cable to the computer. On Palm EMU and MMCD, I get "Serial Com Error".

I have it set to Com1. Didn't change the speed settings. Dunno if there is any settings in windows I need to set up?

I've received this error once on my Palm when I changed the baud speed. And it went away once I set it back to factory.

So anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

This is a 94 Talon with stock 94 Eprom.

What com port are you showing under

right click my computer > properties > hardware tab > device manager

expand the part that says ports (usb and lpt)...

What ports are listed there when your logging cable is plugged in ready to log?

Auto On Cable? I don't know what that means really. The cable and palm came with the car. I was told to plug the red wire into a 12v source in the fuse box that isn't being used. So I did. Plugged it into the data port. put the rubber cover over it and tucked the wire away nice and hidden all the way over to the glove box.

Yes, Hak, that is Auto On.

Btw OP, the Auto On cable is for people that have ABS. If you cable is logging the ABS becomes disabled because of the pins that the logger grounds. Auto On allows the cable to not permanently ground the pins that disable abs and will only ground when the logger is initialized.

I got my null modem cable from radio shack and it worked fine :p I also opened it up to look inside and verify this too though.

Again, all that should need to happen is your pins 2 and 3 on the female db9 serial side of the cable need to be switched if that cable was advertised as "palm logger cable".

Kinda interesting they used RJ45 jack and receptacle like that to make the cable.

The cable came with the car. I used it for a while on my car with the Palm and MMCD, but sometime last year my window was busted and system stolen along with the Palm.

Yeah, then Hak's absolutely right, all you need is to switch pins 2 and 3 on the serial side... this is typically done w/ a null modem adapter. Pay attention to the gender on both sides because you may end up needing a gender adapter when it's all said and done.

Alright. I picked up the Null Modem Adaptor from Radio Shack and BOOM, it works. the TMO Logger Software works, The Palm Emulator works with MMCD.
