Some interesting things. Numbers are in knots, the flow bench used an air speed indicator for the flow values
all that really matters is the difference between two values. CFM is nice, but it's like hp, if you take it to a different bench you could get a different number, all that is important is when you make a change, does the value go up or down.
All tests were done with my 3" aluminum inlet pipe, no recirc fitting, and it's two 45* bends.
Only the pipe, pipe and $15 parts store ricer filter, pipe filter and an extra 3" 90 bend all flowed 145@15inH2O, and 101@10inH2O. This is not what I expected, and I think I may have been beyond the resolution of the machine to notice difference in flow caused by the filter and a 90* bend. More on this later.
The next test was a hacked 1g MAS. It has everything but the top honeycombs removed. Just mas 142 and 99. H-MAS + newish, clean paper filter 141 and 97.5. H-MAS+filter+air can 137.5 and 97.
Final tests used an unhacked 1g MAS. just mas 136.5 and 97.5. With filter 135 and 96.5. With filter and air can 135 and 95.5.
Well, the 1g mas is a restriction, duh, same with the filter and air box.
I don't have a 2g mas or a GM one, but I'm willing to go back and test them if someone wants to donate them. I don't even have money to ship thme, so it will be all on you, I'm not putting any of that BS on my car again : D
Now, the 90* elbow. I've heard dyno increases of 10-15hp on maxed out turbos by reducing the number of pre-turbo bends. This doesn't show up on the flow bench, and I'm not sure why. @ 400hp, 10 extra is 2.5% or so, I should have been able to see that, but I didn't. I can't explain why it shows up on the dyno and not on the flow bench, that's also why I dropped the pressure down, to see if lower driving pressure (that might be closer to what the turbo causes) could have shown bigger differences, but the story was the same.
Discussions encouraged, especially criticisms. I'd really like to know how to get the results to mimic those of the dyno.
Oh, I'll get pics of the intake setups, right after this 40
