Could you benifit for a 3.5'' MAF ?

Do any of you guys think that you could benifit from using a 3.5'' round MAF that doesn't have anything in the airway, over using the stock MAF ? This is just a question, I hear people saying the stock MAF is good till "XXX" amount of power, but if I told you your stock airbox filter was good till "XXX" HP, would you wait will then to upgrade it ? I don't even own a DSM ( right now, but I will ), I only have a lowly TT stealth R/T..

What if I told you this 3.5'' MAF system would only cost $305 TOTAL !! And it could control injectors ( upto 720cc ) and adjust idle, base, and 2 different WOT adjustments !! I can replace an APEXi S-AFC !!! But you can still use the apexi to FINE TUNE it.. It will also be a clean install, only a very little amount of wiring ( if any ). Let me know what you guys think...

TRE sold one of these, they stopped making them due to lost interest, is this the unit you speak of?
 
No this isn't that TRE deal, I believe that "TRE" set-up you are refering to was almost $800 or something like that !! They stopped selling it b/c it wasn't,"profitable" enough... It came with a big K&N filter and wasn't cost effective... I'm talking about some new, no one has it YET, and no one answered my questions... So ??? Is anyone even reading this ??
 
I am interested, as long as it is VERY accurate and doesn't miss counts like the stock 2G unit does, eliminates fuel cut, and has various settings to set 450CC injectors, 550CC injectors and so on to make teh car run nice, then yeah I am interested.

The TRE unit was $400 BTW.
 
I wasn't sure of the price on the "TRE", but yes its going to have settings for various injectors ( IE: 450, 550, 620,660, and 720 etc ). I WILL BE ACTURATE !! Here is a little post started my me on the Stealth/3000GT forum, 3Si. If you want more info on, it read it.

We will be building the units in question here. We are working on the prototypes at the moment. Bob is working out some adjustment details:

5 adjustments
4 switches
---------------------
Adjust:
base range (injector size) will handle cruise fuel adjustment
Idle fuel (compensate for PCV and fuel pump issues)
mid fuel (from zero boost to about 5 psi, for spool)
WOT1 full throttle fuel #1
WOT2 full throttle fuel #2.

switches:
1 -
2 - set #1 and #2 to select which Hot wire unit you are using

3- 4 cyl or 6 cyl (selects DSM or 3S)
4- Selects operating mode of WOT 2 knob:
- use trigger wire to turn on WOT 2 (dry N2O, propane, alky, lean spool....);
or
- RPM setpoint (5500 rpm?) switch from WOT1 to WOT2


basically I need to decide on switch 4, because another idea is to always use the trigger wire to turn on WOT2, and use switch 4 to select flat fuel/rpm or tapered.

Tapered fuel: with Dry N2O the Nitrous injection is constant so the amount of N2O per cylinder is lower the higher the RPM, tapered fuel can account for this. With alky or propane its the same issue, but reversed. Same basic solution.

This unit will let the late style GM maf sensors become a bolt on for the DSM cars. There will be a nice performance increase and eliminate the need for an AFC.

I hope the above is clear. Just looking for some feedback on how the unit will operate.

Ramchargers IS going to be the ones making them. It looks to be more adjustable than an ARC-2 with a 87mm MAF ! An Arc-2 is $1100 new, plus another $200 for the 87mm MAF ( not the standard 83mm MAF ), I'm pretty sure you can use the ARC-2 on a DSM right ? Anyway, $1300 for a 87mm MAF and ARC-2 System or $200 for the translator and $105 for the 3.5'' MAF ? Theses are going to install cleanly and all; I've seen in person the work these guys do ( Bob Baily ) in person and it isn't anything "getto" or "rigged"..

LT-1 MAF = 3'' = 800CFM
stock LS-1 MAF= 3.5'' = 1000CFM
Modified LS-1 MAF = 4'' inlets and outlets = 1200CFM

My friend has the 4'' one on his 650HP Buick Grand Natioanl !!! He has $18K just in the motor, he wouldn't trust anything that wasn't completly safe on his "baby". Can you guess who built the translator so he could use a 4'' LS-1 MAF ?? Bob Baily and Ramchargers !!

personally, all i care about is the ability to convert to hot wire, all that fancy stuff is unnecessary, will you have a basic kit without all the extras?

Since it is mostly software we could make a version without any adjustment but it will not affect the price by more than around $20 or so and will then require an AFC. Personally, I would think that most folks would rather spend the extra $20 to get the ability to tune and save $300+.

it seems like most people who would need a MAF that flows that much would already have the afc though (like me)

each nob for idle, base, wot, and wot2 is supposed to be 16 point adjustable, so it is going to be pretty "tuneable". I have a V-AFC ( same as S-AFC ) and I'm going to be one of the first to use it hopefully. I sent them my $375 (new) stock MAF so they can flow it, and make the 87mm run as smooth as the factory one. It can eliminate the need for a S-AFC, but if you wanna tune it to the MAXIMUM EDGE, I'm sure the S-AFC will make it that much easier... I have great faith in this product b/c I'v seen their other products in action, I'm in no way recieving money or anything from ramchargers, just a great mod for a car that doesn't have a lot of aftermarket support ( My Stealth R/T ).. An AFC that can control 720cc injectors, and upgrade my MAF for $305 ( total ), sign me up ( I've been signed up ).

Think of it as a VPC that keeps good idle ( with rapidly changing envirment ), and cost Half as much...
Translator is going to be $200, from what I was told.
You can get the 3.5'' LS-1 MAF for $105 new.
 
I'm interested, but I already have an AFC. I would like to convert to a hotwire setup for an inexpensive price. Would the injector size selector be infinitely adjustable from stock to 850cc+? Or would I have to adjust fuel pressure to run this MAS without an AFC on my 600cc injectors?
 
I isn't going to control 1000cc injectors or anything, but it will support 360cc-720cc injectors.

Mike ( ramchargers ), just said that going to just the "hotwire" setup with out the AFC part would cost $180, and for an extra $20 you get the AFC, SO they aren't going to make 2 different version just so a FEW people can save $20... I you don't wanna use the AFC part, just don't touch it, but instead of having your S-AFC at like -27, -29- or -40, why not use the AFC part, and fine tune your with your Apexi S-AFC...

If they built a "non-AFC" unit it would cost $285 to goto the LS-1 3.5'' MAF with no adjustment. OR $305 with adjustment that can control 720cc injectors and the LS-1 MAF...
 
I understand that the unit will be able to control the injectors, but is the adjustment like the TRE one with dip switches that select what size injector you are using? If so, this is not good for the people with injectors that aren't sized the same as the dip switch settings. If the controller is like a gain on a VPC, then it would work fine for all injector sizes within reason.

How will this unit effect timing on a stock ECU? Will it advance timing with large injectors and a smaller airmass signal like an AFC? I'd assume this is true as the ECU has to see the same value for airmass to get the the same A/F ratio.
 
I am Interested, Can you use my car as a Ginny Pig? Let me know costs, maybe a special for us as you guys are jsut starting out, with a hotwire setup could you vent into the Atmosphere?
 
they actually aren't "just starting out" and I believe they already have a tester. these guys have been doing this for the gn guys for a while now
 
No dip switch adjusments. You will be able to tune with our product. I will post up a pic ASAP (few days)

No, we are in the prototype stage now. For the LT1 and Turbo Buick cars we build a Translator + that adds the ability to control ignition timing. We also build the LS1 timing tuner that is a timing computer and NOS controller. If we do that for the DSM we should not need a stand alone for the most part. One project at a time though.

Not until we do some more testing and send out a few beta units but I do not expect it to be very long before we will have production units for sale.
