AEM 2g Knock Sensor in a 1g With AEM EMS

Hey guys, im just trying to get a 2g knock sensor for my car and im just wondering what the part number is for the knock sensor i need. And what i will all need to do to install it. Do i need to rewire the connector, and do i need to thread it in somewhere else?

Any reason you don't want to use the 1g sensor? If you're going to change the sensor making you need to change teh wire/plug, you might as well get the bosch sensor (2 wire) as it's known to be alittle less sketchy when it comes to signaling the ECU, but even at that if you have an AEM EMS you can change how sensitive teh KS is anyway.

Sorry i don't know the 2g part # because i don't replace them with OEM ones, i use the bosch or saturn parts available

Any particular reason? You have so many options available to you with an aftermarket EMS that it seams strange you would want to go with one known for being overly active:confused:

I run the Saturn (one wire) unit myself currently but am going to go to the bosch 2 wire one when i get off my lazy but and buy one simply so i can isolate and shield the ground side of it to rule out any possible interference from the MSD box or other high voltage leads that may cross it's wire in the engine bay or harness.
 
I bought a new 2g sensor for my 1g also i am still putting in the EMS when i get a chance to work on it.


the main reason for me is because it is plug and play and that is what everyone was saying on the AEM sight was the best way to do it.

But if i had already not installed it i would have looked into other sensors.
 
They get it because its plug and play and is more sensitive to knock. Aka it'll inform you when you're getting knock sooner (i think.....) than the 1g sensor.

I plan on doing a 2g knock sensor on my 1g when I get the AEM EMS sooner or later :)
 
Steve's right, and sensitivity doesn't matter, because the tables are all user adjustable.
 
Do you absolutely need the AEM EMS to run the 2g knock sensor in a 1G?

If your using a 1G ECU then you use a 1G knock sensor, a 2G ECU uses a 2G sensor, and an EVO ECU uses the EVO sensor. In this case the AEM EMS is designed to use a 2G knock sensor for both the 1G and 2G versions of it.

There's no reason to run a 2G sensor in a 1G other than to match the ECU requirements.
