too much fuel?

The two things that cause Knock are. To much timming or not enough fuel. I have never heard of to much fuel causing it. :thumb:
 
thats what i was thinking
due to increased cylinder pressures and such could preignite the fuel at wot.
just me thinking again

got ir runnin ok in 30 degree weather, just stuck at 13 psi
damn mas over run!
 
the main reason you get knock is lack of fuel. the lean condition causes the mixture to burn hotter, since it burns more efficiently. this heats up parts in the cylinders (spark plugs, valves, pistons, cylinder walls, head) which can get hot enough to light the fuel off (when more heat is generated in the compression stroke) without the spark plug even firing (think a diesel engine). This spontaneous, uncontrolled explosion (as opposed to a controlled burn) causes extreme pockets of pressure and heat. These pressure waves are what you hear slamming into hard parts causing the knock or ping sound (the same vibrations the knock sensor picks up). The heat it generates is much higher than with the controlled burn and melts those important internals. The engine will dump in more fuel and cut timing to try and cools things back down to protect itself...
This is just one aspect of knock, albeit the one most of us are concerned with.
