Help me pick a Wideband Kit....

Hi all. I've been wanting to get wideband kit for my car for a while now but I don't know which one to get. I was hoping I could get some suggestions as to which one to get. Let me give you a quick run down of my future plans and requirements and maybe then you can help me pick out my wideband kit. First of my goal for the car is a 350-400 awhp daily driver. Future upgrades will include FMIC, Walbro 255, FIC 850's or PTE 880's, and AFPR. I also plan to get DSMLink. But for the time being I need to get a wideband for the purpose of diagnosis some problems. My requirements for a wideband kit are as follows:

1. Ability to log. Either directly to PC or to on board memory.

2. Ability to log Air Fuel ratio vs RPMs.

3. Kit must have a 2 1/16th gauge. (Or atleast be able to hook up a 2 1/16th gauge)

4. I must be able to hook up the wideband to DSMLink in the future while still being able to use the gauge and original wideband controller with logging.

5. Bang for the buck. I don't want to cheap out but I don't want to spend an arm and a leg.

Ok so that's what I need. I've been looking at the Innovative DB / LC-1 kit and I really like it except for one thing and that's its inability to log Air Fuel ratio vs RPMs (I think). Is there and way to log AFR vs RPMs with the LC-1 controller??? If so, how? If not, would the LM-1 kit be able to do it?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The Zeitronix setup with the ZR-2 or ZR-1 gauge will meet all of your requirements. MAPerformance just started selling them and they have a package that includes the gauge.

RRE also sells them as they are local to the manufacturer so calling them is also a good idea.

The software that comes with the Zeitronix unit will allow you to log RPM vs. AFR as well as many other things. And when you do get DSMlink it is hassle free to wire the outputs from the Zeitronix to your ECU and log everything with the DSMlink software.
 
Wow thanks, that looks like really good buy. Which one did you get? The ZR-1 or ZR-2? And what is the difference between them? Anything else you recommend I get with it?

NOt asking for much are you LOL If you're getting link you should be able to tap into that with either the 5v uego output or the 0-1v anolog simulated output and log AF vs. RPM that way.

But i will agree with SOAD, get the Zeitronix, it's got a ton of features and about everything you want in a wideband. Personally, i stick to datalogging everything through the haltech so i can see all parameters together instead of judging back and forth between 2 unts trying to match the exact times in each log

I have the ZR-2 gauge in my car. The differences between the two are that the ZR-1 only shows AFR or lambda values and has slightly larger numbers and a three digit display, and the ZR-2 has a four digit display which causes the numbers to be a bit smaller but it has the ability to display AFR, lambda, EGT, and boost.

The ZR-2 is fairly customizable I have the center LCD display showing boost by default and the outside ring of LEDs is showing my EGT and I can cycle to AFR for tuning runs at the touch of a button.

When I bought mine I went with the whole package including EGT and boost sensors. It wasn't cheap but since I didn't have either gauge yet it made sense to me. Plus I like the stealth factor of not having a bunch of gauges.

LOL .... Exact opposite of me. I went gauge happy. I have 3 installed, 2 more ready to be installed, and this will be number 6.

How (and where) did you tap your EGT? I have a FP cast manifold that doesn't have a O2 bung but I do have spare bungs in the exhaust. Can I mount it there?

From what I know the desired place for the EGT probe on a DSM is in the number one runner of the exhaust manifold. As cylinder 1 tends to run the hottest being farthest from the water neck.

Most EGT probes have 1/8" NPT threads which are much smaller than O2 sensors.

Here is a link to the quick and dirty way to tap an exhaust manifold while it is still on the car.

I did this method on my previous manifold and had no problems but it is scary for obvious reasons. And if you do do this take my advice and wear welding gloves because as soon as that hole goes through some really hot gasses come out of it.

And as for the wideband sensor itself I like mine right before the flex section of the down pipe. When you put it there is far enough away form the turbo to prevent heat damage and when people install them after the flex sections they usually find skewed readings due to the flex section leaking.
 
This looks good... but are there any other widebands that would work? I do like the idea of having the EGT and wideband gauge all in one; because even though I'm a ricer who loves gauges... I'm running out of places to put them. LOL
 
I'm guessing you have to have DSMlink to log that O2? Although I see Link in my future... currently I'm using PocketLOGGER to log with. Are there any widebands that can be logged with PocketLOGGER??
