will a leaking wastegate flapper effect timing on the ecu?

My question is will a leaking wastegate flapper effect timing on the ecu?

I ask because every once and a while I can hear an awkward noise come from my dump tube when I'm coming out of vacuum and on my logger timing gets pulled waaaay back to 0-4 degrees and the fuel trims go nuts and way rich. And let me just say, its NOT a vacuum/boost leak.
I'm thinking I ported out the housing a little to much on the one side when I did my 34mm flapper.

Does a leaking flapper cause a rich condition?

A leaking flapper would not have a noticable AFR affect. Most stock 14B flappers are leaking (cracks in the seat). Worst case is that you're spoolup would be noticable later and/or your boost levels would be limited.

Is this something that just started happening? Maybe pull the intake off the turbo to make sure there is no obstructions and that the turbo is spinning freely. Also make sure that the sensors/vacuum lines that you disconnected when installing the turbo (MAF, BOV, Coolant Temp, O2..etc) are connected and secure.

Hey John,
Sounds resonable. The boost is at stock level without the BCS ie 7 psi theoretically, however I see 6 psi in 1st, 7.5-8 psi in 2nd - 4th gear. So flapper is probably not leaking.

Interesting thing about the problem is that it does not happen over 3000 rpm...on a good 3000-6000rpm pull no hesitation coming up to boost and my o2 voltages are ~.93 -.94 and my fuel trims are leveled out to zero...most of the time ltft is -2 and stft is + 2 but is tuned on the AFC so I go lean +2 or +3 under some pulls and then the ltft is 0 and the stft goes positive. Timing I'm seeing 15-20 degrees. EGT stays around 820C. So all is good on high throttle pulls.

What I noticed when installing my new plug wires is that the #1 and #4 spark plugs had normal blackish-grey residual indicating a good mixture, however plugs #2 and #3 had a rather white appearance as if the two cylinders are running lean which does not make sense if my fuel trim is leveled out.

Again the issue is:
Partial throttle conditions from 1krpm to 3krpm when the hesitation appears, timing on the ecu gets pulled waaay back to low single digits and my fuel trims go way negative and rich. I can also hear an awkward noise coming from the engine as if it was leaking exhaust. Any idea what this could mean?
