Well like it says....I removed my DSMLink and Injectors and got a stock 96 GST ECU out of the deal and a set of 450's...I put them in and the car runs and idles, but I get this funky hesitation between 1.5K-3K like its hitting a rough patch here and there. It kind of clears up at above 3K and all highway driving...but I really cant KEEP driving it like this in the city and my gas mileage is suffering alittle bit as well. SO could the CAS difference between 2GA and 2gB be causing this little problem or is the problem underlying somewhere else? Car ran fine and smooth with DSMLink in there so it wasnt an ongoing problem. Thanks for the help. -Matt

***Edit***

Man I can't believe I wrote that shizzz, my bad.

The reason your car is tripping is because you are running a 96 ECU on a 97 Engine with the CAS end of the Intake Cam.
Without DSMLink, you can not Invert the CAS signal, so yes you are going to have driveablilty issue.

Here's a link from another thread.

Did you switch the plug wires back to your 97 firing order?
The 2ga ECU uses a CAS that is under the Intake Cam Sprocket.
The signal is inverted...

Yea they are switched for a 95-96 ECU now...but when I took out link and put in the new ecu I wasnt thinking and set it up for a 97 ecu and tried turning it over about 10-15 times...Think I could have fouled the plugs or something doing that? I just though since it happens at random times It had to be something that changes like the CAS signal.

So now its set up how its supposed to be, but I get this annoying hesitation like imagine if you were to run your hand along a smooth surface, and there were patched of sand paper....you could still do it but it would feel like your dragging...and thats what they car is doing. Thanks in advance for anymore help.

Ok I got it now....thanks for taking the time to edit it. Your little mushroom cloud is missing for rep points? Ill figure it out for you and Thanks again.

I guess what I initially wrote was correct.
Glad you've got it figured out.
It's the lack of CAS Inversion in DSMLink that you are missing now right?

Yeah, I can't see anyone's scales either...

*Edit* right after I replied and saw my post, I can see my scales, but not yours.
Something's not right.

From DSMLink:

When you put a '95 ECU into a car with a non-95 CAS, the ECU ends up swapping the firing order of the injectors. In most cases, this produces very little noticeable difference in drive quality. But we offer the option to invert the CAS signal anyway just in case.

If you still have issues after swapping the wires, you may be one of the few that fall under the "just in case" category. If you can, find a buddy with a 97-99 ECU that you can swap out with and see what happens...........I imagine this will solve the problem.

Also a (drum roll please) BLT (not the sandwich) never hurts when hesitation/stumbling issues arise, doesn't take long and is easy to do.

You now refer someone for rep point here and it will get done if it is warranted:

Yea I had it right too...Thanks alot for the help, both of you. I guess Ill just search for a 97 ECU. Thanks

Damn, now I really do feel retarded.
I was going to mention a BLT as well earlier, but forgot...

Thanks man...

Hell if you lived closer I'd let you swap my 97 ECU in.
Why did you get rid of DSMLink?

I paid around 870 for it about 5 months ago and then the semester started.....I didnt use link once for 5 months. It was just not a priority to have or....to have almost 900 dollars tied up. So I sold it for 600 and a stock 96 ecu and injectors which I THOUGHT was a good deal, but I guess not now. Thanks for the offer but yea were kinda far haha. Maybe theres something at the junkyard. we will see...

Hook up a logger to your car and log timing during this hesitation. I'm willing to bet that you have a bad case of phantom knock as I used to. Timing during light acceleration should be around 30*. When you get this hesitation, check the logger to see if the timing is dropping, most likely in the mid 10s range. I had the exact problem that you described and it was phantom knock. The reason it didn't occur with DSMlink is because it was most likely set to ignore knock below a certain RPM and throttle %.

It didnt do it when I had my stock ecu in there? Could it just be this 96 ecu sucks on my car all around? Thnks
