i'm looking to put a 2g maf into my 1g tsi. reasons are the obvious. my only question is that i have the 2g maf plug with the maf i bought. can i hack the wires from my 1g harness and mate them to the 2g harness?? if so is there anywhere i can get detailed instructions (i seem to really screw up when it comes to electrical, and i hate electrical too  ). i searched the vfaq and i didnt find what i was looking for. any help would be awesome. thanks

also, is there any other simple ways to hook it up? thanks again

You didn't look very hard on vfaq.com...........less than 10 seconds, and here it is.

oh no...i found that, but i didnt see anything in it specifically for what i wanted. i was just gonna cut the 1g plug and solder the pig tail off of my 2g plug to the 1g wires. i didnt see anything about that on vfaq, but i was wondering basically if you just match up the wires basically and solder them together (i know that the 1g and 2g designations for different operations are in different locations on the plug) and also the 1g and 2g have 2 separate functions controlled by the maf, 1g has idle position switch and 2g has volume air flow sensor reset signal. do those go together? thanks

Other than the error regarding these two wires the VFAQ has all the information needed.

The error in the VFAQ is calling the 1G wire the idle position switch. It's not, it is air flow sensor reset signal.

so then if thats the case, you just wire the 1g wires respectively to the 2g counterpart?

Sure, just like you would do otherwise.

The only thing that changes is how you connect the correct wire on the 2G connector to the correct wire in the 1G harness.

Am I missing something because the question seems abnormally retarded?

ha, ok well for instance, the air flow sensor wire is the 2nd plug on the 1g and the 3rd on the 2g, so i can just cut and connect right with no problems whatsoever? im just trying to make sure 100% that i understand, measure twice, cut once :thumb:

I would have rather you said, "This is what I'm going to do, is it correct?" but since you haven't I'll tell you how to do this.

Pin 1 on the 2G connector goes to the green/red wire that was pin 4 on the 1G harness.
Pin 2 on the 2G connector goes to the green/yellow wire that was pin 7 on the 1G harness.
Pin 3 on the 2G connector goes to the green/blue wire that was pin 2 on the 1G harness.
Pin 4 on the 2G connector goes to the red wire that was pin 3 on the 1G harness.
Pin 5 on the 2G connector goes to the green/black wire that was pin 6 on the 1G harness.
Pin 6 on the 2G connector goes to the green/orange wire that was pin 8 on the 1G harness.
Pin 7 on the 2G connector goes to the green/white wire that was pin 1 on the 1G harness.
Pin 8 on the 2G connector has nothing.

Now double check my work before starting on your harness.

Ok so I recently put a 2g maf in my 1g, used the stock 2g pipe and recirced my BOV.

Everything works fine, EXCEPT... at very light throttle positions I get MAF signal spikes, the MAF freq spikes up to 3000+ (according to the SAFC). This causes it to spike the injectors and the car nose dives from being so rich.

I figured it was a bad MAF at first so I swapped to a known good one last night and same problem. After reading the VFAQ some more the air flow reset makes alot of sense since it happens right around where my idle switch kicks in. I'm not really sure what to do to resolve this other than clipping the idle switch wire to the 2g maf (Pin 7 on the MAF). Also not sure why I'm the only one that has apparently ran into this (searched everywhere).

Here's a pic of the issue on my logger
