I recently picked up a used Palm M100. I am having trouble connecting the Palm to my computer. It came with the Hotsync serial cable and an adapter for a USB port )which is made by KEYSPAN p/n usa-19). I contacted the seller and he said he has not used it in about 4 years. I am wondering which cables and software I need to be able to set up for logging other than the actual cable to the Talon. So anybody with the M100, I could use a little help getting set up.

Thanks for the space.

You don't need any software for the palm, but you will need some software for your PC. If you visit http://www.palmone.com and download Palm Desktop for your PC, it will come with a little program called HotSync. You need to run hotsync on your pc first, right click the icon in the system tray and set it to serial (or usb, however you're connecting your palm to your pc). turn on your palm and press the hotsync button (the big button). All of your mmcd log files will then be copied to your My Documents/MMCD.

If you want to read your logs via MS Excel on the pc you'll need to download MMCD Tools.

Hope this helps you out, good luck.

I have downloaded and installed the Palm Desktop however I have problems with the USB and my computer not accepting the plug. It detects the USB is plugged in but says there is an error and it may not work properly. I do not have a serial connection on the back of the computer to try. I am wondering if the cable may be out of date or something. I have a Dell 5100 running Windows XP Home. I dont know if maybe a different upgraded cable may be the answer or not. I am guessing that this one is 4 + years old. The Palm tries to connect for a couple of minutes but says to check connection. I dont want to go out buying different cables to find out they are not compatible. Which connection cable are you running?

I am running serial. It's really odd for a Dell not to have a serial connector, my computer is a Dell too. Are you making sure HotSync is running on the PC before you try to press the hotsync button?

As soon as I plug up to the USB port the computer detects it but says there is a problem and it will not accept it. The programs are running but it will not accept the cable. I have double checked and there is no serial port. I am thinking that the cable i have for USB may not work with Windows XP.

Well I got it all sorted out, seems it was a cable issue and for some reason it would not accept it. I bought a new cable and it all works great now. Thanks for the help and suggestions. :thumb:

Now I just need to get the car running...............

Glad to hear it worked out, I also suffered a bad cable once, it annoyed me until I just tried a new cable. Logger cables often get stuffed into strange positions (from car installs) and get shorted out quickly.
