I'd like to know if there are any performance gains to be achieved by completely removing the 02 sensor from the 4g63 turbo?
I'm from the Philippines and there's no such thing as emission controls over here. Vehicles here don't have to go thru smog testing and the existence of catalytic converters are unheard of.
I remember seeing an evolution 3 lancer prepared by ralliart in one of the rally's run over here and it didn't have an 02 sensor at all.
What steps should I perform in regards to the wiring harness that attaches to the 02 sensor?
I was told that I should attach the wire from the e.c.u. to the 02 sensor on a suitable ground on the engine. Is that true?
What are the pro's and con's of 02 sensor removal?
Any insight/advice will be much appreciated.

Personaly i've never head of not having an 02, I can't see any gains in not having one. Old carberated cars don't have one but they don't need it. The car you saw probley had a stand alone with a very perfect idle and other ways of finding its air fuel mixture other than an 02. If you switched to not having an 02 your idle would suffer and your gas milage would drop or your engine would lean out to much at idle. Remeber the ECU only really reads 02 voltage under open loop mode and its only in open loop mode when the car is not under acceleration, so I really see no gains in doing something like this.
 
yeah, there would be no real gain from eliminating the O2, probably just a lot of headaches and drivability problems. However I have seen some starion/conquests where a switch is spliced into the O2 sensor wire, and when the car is being driven hard with a good amount of boost, then the O2 can be turned off and the engine gets a little more fuel and it doesnt lean out so much. This of couse is a risk, and I don't know if it would work, or if anyone has ever tried it on a DSM.
 
You can do it I do it but you need to be careful because it works like a messanger or partner with your ECU and helps you r engine run safe. Your car also won't like it. The reason I have mine out is because I run a Satnd Alone and I tune my car on a Dyno with a wide band O2 sensor. So I think you should leave your car with the stock O2 sensor for you safty.

P.S. Take out your CAT and run a straight pipe with no muffler your turbo can breath alot better wich gives bottom and top end power. OR beef your fuel system up along with your boost.

Nick, Thanks a lot for the advice and suggestion. Re. the cats, we don't have such in our country. Strange as it may sound, there's no such thing as emission laws over here in the Philippines. I've currently got a 3" down pipe leading into a 2 1/2" straight thru muffler and exhaust pipe. Turbo is a large 16g w/ upgraded u&l i/c pipings, large spearco fmic, 205 lph fuel pump w/ wiring upgrade, b&m adj. fpr set at 50 psi@idle. i've got the boost set at 18 psi c/o an hks mbc. i'm actually quite content with the way the car is running at the moment, i'm just looking for an extra bit more hp at the lowest possible cost. thanks again for your advice which i'll definitely follow. :)
 
you definetly should use a turbo muffler with a 3in inlet and 3in outlet to reduce back pressure. other then that sounds like you have a pretty good setup. nick anaya
