Laptop Datalogger for 2G OBDII

I have been reading up a lot on this, but I haven't seen it explicitly expressed anywhere. I was wondering if someone could make a 'recipe' for me so I can log my car. I recently acquired a laptop and wanted to try logging my car. What components do I need to log my '99 gs-t other than the laptop?

or i believe palm n stein has laptop software, but i dont even remember where to download the stuff for it or whatnot.

I don't want to tune with it, I just want to log what my car is actually doing. I was actually thinking more of what cable and software I need. I have seen some that have a cable going from the car -> box -> laptop. Is this needed?

You'll need some sort of OBD-II scanner/logger like what's available at http://www.scantool.net - they have a cheap, easily constructed DIY OBD-II scanner on their site. I've got about $40 in mine. If you need a guide for building one, let me know.
