I am running a 50 trim and a 2g mass with an afc. I have denso 660s and afpr. I have been reading that when im at wot that the timing will go to advanced and I could blow a head gasket. Should I get an eprom ecu and a chip or get a gm mas and translator for compensation. I would like to do both but for now I need to know what to do for the cheapest to keep my engine safe. Do you think my setup will be ok the way it is? Thanks for the help.

You can't adjust your actual timing w/o a DSMlink setup, or simliar standalone.

I'm pretty sure you could get away w/ your setup and a AFC of MAFT device (they both just do the same thing essentially). Hopefully someone w/ more advice on running a 50trim and 660's using piggyback tuning could post what their timing curve looks like.

Yea I know I cant adjust it but what can I do to make sure it doesnt go to advanced. I wanna keep the timing down and run more boost. I like my headgasket to stay where its at. Theres gotta me someone running this setup. Any help is great. Thanks

first off, what do you have for a headgasket right now? And what hardwear?

I don't run a 50 trim, but I can vouch for the ability to set timing through a Keydiver chip since all of my chips have been set up with a max of 16 degrees. However you still need some way to lean the car out since they're calibrated with a very rich 9.5:1 A/F which is the factory map. As an example, I have no fuel control, so mine is at 11:1 A/F and the difference is huge. Once I upgrade my intercooler, I'll be able to go back to 21-22 psi with little to no knock.

That's my opinion and hopefully someone with an MAFT setup can give you some insight as to what that unit could do for you.

Hope that helps,

Andy

I have arp studs and a mls head gasket. Where did you get ur chip from?

MAFT with translator will not compensate for timing, nor will SAFC.
All they do is compensate for your injectors, to keep your AFR where you want it. The side effect though, is when ECU is fooled into seeing less airflow, it will advance your timing, that's where problems start.
I'm still battling mine. If get upwards of 30' at WOT atoun 3500-4K RPM. If knocks pretty bad. Past about 4500 timing is more humane, so it pulls great.

The cheapest way to take care of the porblem is EPROM chip designed for your injector size. That way your ECU doesn't go crazy with timing.

i got my eprom from Steve. He is a wiseman here on the boards. If you got questions about any computer related stuff, PM him. Steve is his user name.

I also say that the right chip or comuter setup (aem ems), would suit you better then the maft or safc. As said above, thoes are for airflow which is directly going to affect your fuel. It does have some effect on your timing, but not what your looking for.

Well I just pulled my ecu and its an eprom LOL. I had it for 6 months and never knew it. Now should I just get a chip put in or save and get dsmlink. Is it worth it on my setup?

Yea its cheaper to chip it but dsmlink does alot more and mite be worth the extra money for proper tuning.

With what you have for mods, i would stick with the chip. If you had some crazy setup where you NEEDED DSMlink, then thats a differant story. But you have a stock motor with a 50 trim. Go ahead and get it if you want. Personaly, id chip it and spend the rest of the cash on something else. People have ran more then what you have well before DSMlink was available.
