Pulling Timing To Decrease Lag

some anti lag systems delay timing to speed up boost, im not an expert, but i understand why this works and i think its pretty damn cool, what im wondering is how much could a upgraded turbo take this? daily? trackly? i mean, the extra heat has got to be INSANE, but can you guys give me an idea oh how much it will decrease spool time? i know that DSM link and the AEM unit both can pull timing, but is there a cheaper/better way? thanks guys,

Most anit-lag systems don't just pull timing but pre-ignite the mixture. That's what makes the turbo spool faster and what kills the turbo. The newest version of the AEM ECU will have an anit-lag system. I don't suggest using it even occasionally.
 
heh, nice color car :D now, does it kill the turbo by heat? or is there something else im missing, it should just be by heat, correct??

It is the heat what kills them. Since it pre-ingites the mixture to keep the turbo spooling.
 
why does it pre ignite it? i thought it would ignite it closer to the exhuast stroke instead of in the middle?
 
I don't know the exact working of it but I know that's the primary function.

As far as pulling timing in general I know on my AFC I lean it out as much as possible during the spool-up rpms.
 
Anti-Lag works by extremely retarding the timing until ignition occurs when the exhaust valve is open. This in turn causes combustion of the air/fuel mixture to occur within the exhaust manifold, producing very high exhaust temperatures and pressure. The exhaust energy spools the turbo. The downside is that the temperatures are very high and give the exhaust manifold and hot side of the turbo a severe beating. Cracking, etc can occure over time. I have no idea how long you could go without problems. I am sure the factory exhaust manifold(2G) could handle quite a bit of abuse.

The DSMLINK cannot perform antilag. To my knowledge the AEM system as well as most standalones do support this function.
 
Thanks that's the explanation I wanted to give but I couldn't remember it well enough.

I don't think any do that now but I heard that the next realease of the AEM SW will have that function.
 
thats what i thought it did, i wonder if the FP30 will be *cermic(sp!!) and could support the high temps, now that would be cool! anywho, thanks guys

An anti lag system also needs extra fuel and air coming from somewhere else to work because the throttle will be closed when anti lag is needed. The race setups I've read about have an extra injector and another air source mounted in the exhaust collector. Maybe on our cars the computer could dump a set ammount of fuel when the TPS reads "closed" and also have the ICS motor go to full open to get some air in. Along with the retarded timing it might have a chance at maybe trying to sort of work a little if it doesn't fry a turbo first.
