Hey guys Im having problems high egts and running lean. My current mods are pte 50 trim turbo, denso 660s that has been flow tested and cleaned which flows about 750s, 180lph 3kgt vr4 rewired fuel pump that has about 140k plus miles on it, safc, keydiver chip to compensate for the larger injectors, I also have a logger but didn't log a log yet because I dont like the high egts. Currently the safc settings are 0 at on both low and high settings because I have the keydiver chip in there. Okay the problem is when I crank up the boost. I had it at only 15psi and I see that the egts are soaring high and fast. Pasts 1600 even before redline, also feel loss of power when this happens. I have just changed my fuel filter out also, the old one was clogged and I thought that would fix the lean issues that I have but obviously it didnt. So Im asking you guys what is wrong with my car? Please help me, I have been dealing with this same issue for some long time now. The only think left I can see is wrong is the fuel pump. Maybe its too old and too small.?what do u guys suggest? Thanks Cuong

Are you sure you're running lean?

Are you sure you're not running rich and dumping gas into the exhaust manifold? If this happens, it will cause your EGT gauge to spike from gas igniting in the manifold....

Are you getting any knock?

I am sure that I am indeed running lean. I have tried adding more fuel too, but it would bog down because of too much fuel. At only 9psi it seems to do okay, but when I turn up the boost to like only 15psi, that is when the high egts come into play. The egts would rise fast and when it gets past 1600 F for a sec I feel loss of power. I am pretty sure that I am getting knock too. I will have to look at the knock gauge the next time I run the car with 15psi. Please let me know what you guys think. Fuel pump?

How much fuel would you add with the S-AFC?? and only add it in the higher RPM range.

I have tried adding 8% all across the boards on the high side. Keep in mind that currently I have it at 0 on the safc, plus my denso 660s were actual flow tested to be around 750s. So i think i have sufficient fuel, also the keydiver chip that i have is compensating for 660s. I just did a recent pull with no log, and from 2nd gear i didnt see any knock until i got it to third gear it started knocking at the top of third gear. Also when I did this pull, the egts were rocketed pass 1600 F. Any other suggestions? Is the old 140k plus miles 180lph rewired pump not keeping up? Please help! Thanks Cuong

I think that may indeed be the case, then (fuel pump).

180LPH isn't a huge upgrade over stock. Stock is about 160LPH @ 20PSI, a Walbro 190LPH is 182LPH @20PSI. Especially if the pump is getting tired, it could definitely cause your problem.

U definetly should be runnin a 255 fuel pump! If your using 750 injectors? no wonder why your running lean! Plus on the 50 trim?

So the answer is that i need a new and bigger fuel pump right? If this is so, I will try to get some money fast and hurry and order the new fuel pump. Which one do you guys suggest me getting? 255 lph or the 255 high pressure? what is the difference? And with both would I need a AFPR? Im kinda short on funds currently so can I run the bigger 255 pump without a AFPR? Thanks Cuong

You would need an AFPR for both the HP or the LP pumps, due to the fact that they run about the same pressure at low pressure... the only real difference between the two pumps is that the HP will flow better at higher fuel pressures (50PSI+).

If you get a FullThrottle AFPR, it's a bolt-on piece, and it works pretty darn well. It's what I've got on my car with my 255LPH HP. www.fullthrottlespeed.com, I believe they're still $140.00.
