Well i had a egt gauge installed on my eclipse. I assumed the shop knew to install it in the first runner of the exhaust manifold but when i checked there work after getting home i didn't see any probe in my manifold so i ggot under the car and found they had drilled a hole in my apexi Downpipe before the flex section and installed the probe there. i was wondering how many degrees i should expect to compensate for there mistake, for example, if i'm seeing 800 degrees on my egt, what should i figure it would be had they installed the probe in the corect place in the exhaust manifold?

Thanks for the info, i found a thread about installing the probe after the turbo that makes me feel not as bad about the install job, but its nice to know what i should figure its off by. Thanks again, i noticed you answered another one of my questions about getting into the 13's.

NP. If you know anyone local to you with basically the same mods you could both go cruising at the same speeds and compare EGT readings, that should give you a good idea of the difference.

It is generally considered pointless to put a EGT probe anywhere but the #1 or #2 runner of the exhaust manifold. By the time your EGT probe reads anywhere near the danger point, you have already blown your engine. I would suggest welding the hole up in your downpipe (easily done with a MIG welder and 2 minutes) and then drilling and tapping a hole in your manifold yourself. Just drill it most of the way through with the car off, clean out the chips, start your car, drill your hole all the way through so the exhaust pushes the chips OUT, then turn your car off, coat your tap (1/8" NPT for most EGT probes) with wheel bearing grease so the chips stick to your tap, tap hole, and install EGT probe with a bit of antiseize. No point to pay a shop to do it. Even if you need to buy a drill bit and a tap, those are at most $10 total.
