My buddy's car is acting kinda funny.... with in the last 5 months he installed a gt28 turbo, bigger injectors, fuel pump and an EGT gauge. His EGT Reads really close to 1600 when hes boosting towards the higher rpms but his A/F gauge is reading all the way rich so its not leaning out does that make any sence? What would cause it to be running so hot? the EGT probe is on the manifold runner on the far right about 4- 5 inches away from the block which i think is where its susposed to be correct? I'm not sure if this would make any difference but he had to move his cooling fan from the right side to the left side to make room for the exteral wastegate so its not even cooling the turbo... other than that we cant think of a reason that would cause such high temps any one have any ideas?

1600 is normal and you can't really rely on a blinky blinky A/F gauge to be accurate...

Yep those things will read rich at full throttle pretty much no matter how lean you are. The narrowband blinky light is the most useless gauge ever made.

so basically the only way to figure out if hes lean is to go with a wideband o2 or something of that nature? ( forgive me for asking dumb questions im still kinda new to tuning DSM's)

Or you could watch the EGT , although he probably has the autometer gauge witch only goes to 1600 correct?

yeah it only reads to 1600. But ive watched it and it never really goes past the 1600 degrees but it comes pretty close, then again i mention that its getting close and he shuts down. for future refferance what kinda temps indicate a lean condition cause obviously the little blinky A/F gauge doenst do shit. by the way whats the cheapest wideband o2 he could pick up thats not a pile of crap?

He could be running so rich that the fuel mixture isn't completely igniting in the cylinder, and instead the end gases are igniting in the exhaust manifold causing EGT's to rise. So therefore, although the air/fuel gauge isn't near accurate enough to tune with, it is (probably) diagnosing a problem. How 'bout that

Pull some fuel out and watch the EGT's. If they drop, keep pulling fuel till they start to rise again, and go from there. If they don't initially drop, don't pull any fuel and get a logger or something.

This all should be done on a dyno with a wideband anyway. Or at least with a wideband and some sort of logger.
