Initial settings for S-AFC - everyone's opinion

Everyone has a different setup, and thus everyone probably has a different experience with initial S-AFC settings. I'd like to know what your recommendation on setting an AFC for the first time with the following setups:

1. 550cc injectors - 14b turbo, honeycombs removed
2. 650-660cc injectors - 14b turbo, honeycombs removed
3. 550cc injectors - 16g turbo, honeycombs removed
4. 650-660cc injectors - 16g turbo, honeycombs removed
5. 550cc injectors - T28 turbo
6. 650-660 injectors - T28 turbo

(low setting, high setting, and Th-point)

Please, only give recommendations on these setups if you've tried them yourself - no guessing. And yes, I know RRE has a page on this already, I want your experiences. Specify the relevant mods too (fuel pump, a-fpr, etc. but try and keep it simple.)

Hopefully this will prove to be useful.

I can really only answer #3 then

My th points were set at 1k 2k 3k 4k 4.5k 5k 6k 7k
35% LT 85%HT

My base setting for HT was roughly zero across the board. My honeycomb is removed with my screw backed out flush. I found that even with the 550's that going roughly -12% or w/e was pretty lean cause I datalogged every thing I tried. Im not sure how much the hacked maf accounts for but zero was a pretty good starting point for me. I ended up tuning for ~17psi on 91octane. The final settings for High were - 1k 4% 2k 4% 3k 3% 4K 1% 4.5k 1% 5k 1% 6k 2% 7k 3%
My Low th settings I followed exactly what RRE said and held the rom steady and waited for the o2 to stop ocsillating (leaned it out) then went 2% righer from there, and this worked out very well and made the car run great at low throttle.

Hope this helps

I like the idea but really too many variables come into play.

My 97' 2G:

Small 16G
660 injectors
264/272 HKS cams
All honeycombs in w/adjust screw backed out flush
Upgraded SMIC
Ported TB & 2G Head w/3 angle valve job, extrude honed 2G intake
Ported Exhaust manifold
2.5 exhaust w/high flow cat
91 octane gas
21 psi of boost
Aquamist water/Methanol injection .8mm nozzle
Sea Level

Th point 60% & 80% (many people are moving up the low to 50-60%)
High settings:
3K-34%, 4K-34%, 4.5K-33%, 5K-31%, 5.5K-26%, 7K-24%

Timing in 4th gear at 4K 8 to 10 degrees and max at 7K 18 degrees

My 98 GST

FP Big28
RC Eng 550s
Denso 190lph pump
honey combs all in place
greddy fmic
93 octane gas
TH Point 35% 65%

its a broad range but I actually had the best results with the car right at -25% across the band on the AFC for high settings.

3. 550cc injectors - 16g turbo, no honeycombs
does that mean the honeycombs are removed or intact?

AGP T28
550cc injectors
190lph fuel pump
stock side mount
93 octane
16 psi
30% 80% Thr points

Like larryd, I also went with one setting all across the high and low band.
-30% across the high
-18% acrros the low
With these settings I had a constant .94 o2 and a constant 18 degrees of timing, with a slight dip at 4500 RPMs.

There should be a # for 1G cars with 2G mas. This is when it becomes tricky.

Those that that do report their SAFC settings, I would think timing numbers and knock sum (if available) would be important. Too many people think they are running well (the car feels strong and my EGTs aren't maxed, etc) but in reality they are getting crappy timing and alot of knock but don't even know it.

TH POINTS
20% low
80% High

1000-2000-3000-3500-4000-5000-6000-7000
-33 -30 -27 -26 -26 -26 -25 -25

Weather temp: 40F (I don't remember intake TEMP)
Runnin 17.5 psi boost on 92 Octane

Timing gets pulled to 8 - 10 when boost hits around 3200, and I get 18 - 20 timing at 7100 rpm with no dips on the way. This is a 3rd gear pull with EGTs around 830 - 840C.

Do not remove any honeycombs on a 2G. It is not recommended by many of the more knoweledgeable DSM people/shops.

They are not that restrictive and cause more problems than its worth. Keeping them in will ensure the air is metered correctly and has a linear flow to the turbo.

Can anyone recommend settings for my car.

I have a 91 AWD Talon TSi. Its an automatic however it has a 14b turbo and 450cc injectors and manual cams. Also has a 3 inch downpipe, no cat, 3 inch pipe all the way back to a magnaflow muffler.

Also, where can a person buy one of these data loggers everyone talks about and how much do they cost?

Thanks.
