Non-EPROM to E-PROM?

My friend has a 90 TSi, and he has an EPROM ECU. I have a non-EPROM on my 92 TSi. I was wondering if someone could please explain how we can swap them and whats involved. Thanks, Erick

Can't put a 90 ECU in a 92. Well, you can, but it wouldn't run as well as if it was a 91-94 ECU. 90 is the b@stard step child of the DSM family. The only year that can reliably run a 90 ECU is a 90 DSM.

That's not true. The 90 ECUs have a narrower range of fuel trims but you should be running in the middle anyway. The other difference is one wire that needs to be swapped on the harness.

Really? We had a 90 EPROM ECU and tried it in my 92 and my friend's 91. Car's didn't seem to run too well. Not as well as with the stock ECU that came with the cars at least. Put it in my friend's 90 and it ran like a dream so it wasn't a bad ECU or anything. Ever since I just assumed 90s were different.

Well duh, you can't just plug the ECU in, there is a difference in the harnesses.

Well I think I'll try it out, see how my 92 runs and if its not too bad I'll keep it in there. The 90 will have no problems running right? And about that single wire - does the 90 harness have one more wire or something? Details about that single wire and how I can make this work would be appreciated - Erick

Whats does "RTFM" mean? And which wire (color maybe?) needs to be swapped exactly, I mean there a few there man - Erick
