Alright guys, I'm a pretty new-ish guy to the site but after searching the threads for months I guess it's time for me to reach out.

I got a '97 Talon TSI FWD that needs work, and I've been looking for a shop that'll be able to get it done locally. I've been overseas for a long while and want to get this done right the first time. When I left the US the car was failing badly at emissions, almost double the amount of Hydrocarbons. I've gone through all the threads about emissions on here with all the tricks and things to swap out to try to get it to pass (O2 sensors, fuel quality, fuel filters, exhaust, EGR, ect) with no positive outcome. Once I get back to the US I'll be going over it all over again to ensure nothing was missed.

Now, If I can get that issue resolved (fingers crossed) I'm looking to upgrade to around a Stage 1 build. Currently the car is completely stock except for the normal maint. things, and the parts replaced to attempt to fix the HC issue (fuel filter, after-market cat, O2 sensors, ect). I'm aiming for that 300hp goal but want it done right.

I have no aversion to doing any of the work myself, but I'm tired of it sitting in the AZ sun rotting until I can get back to work on it (I'm stationed in CA when back in the US). This being said, I've come to terms with paying for it, now I just need a shop that's capable of getting it done. So if any of you guys know of any good places that know what they're doing and won't try to shaft me too hard on price, I'm listening.

Stay frosty and keep rockin'!

Sorry if this is no help but here it goes, I just read a post the other day about being in the service... If your stationed somewhere you can keep your residency in AZ if CA is your emissions problem, Im from ohio and I have mine de'smogged and registered at my uncles farm.... So if it wont pass in Cali it might in AZ cause I know how bad CA is with the emissions

The emissions in CA are pretty insane, but currently I can't even get the Talon to pass AZ emissions. I've used the 'out of State emissions' trick on my other vehicles for CA and it's worked like a charm. Even my 4.0L '88 Jeep passed fine in CA using that, but the thing they've reciently (last few years) gotten me on is if you're stationed in CA and live on base, you're required to pass the CA Smog test to get a sticker to go on base. It's the little loopholes that are taking the toll. I've got another vehicle that is a 2003 that passes everything perfectly, but because it's missing a sticker under the hood (from when mods were done to it) they won't pass me. The level of retardation in CA is limitless on a lot of things, but I have to play nice since I'm stationed there.

So in short, thanks for the reply, and I'll definitely be using that trick... but I have to get it to pass AZ emissions first. The information about the Hydrocarbons is in relation to AZ standards >:/ ! Thanks again for the reply.

2 solutions.
1. go see Archie at PSI
2. get a corvette air pump and attach it to your exhaust, you'll blow some of the lowest numbers you've ever heard of simply because the corvette air pump is electric and can be hooked up to blow clean air into your exhaust at the cat.

as far as the #2. option goes i will get more details as to how it works from my friend. he has used this trick on multiple cars in the past and never failed a single test.

Outstanding dude. I'll probably hit up Archie once I'm back in town, but definitely intrested in how that Corvette Air pump works.
