How about for NJ, a South, Central, and North. And like an NYC subforum. Maybe throw in Long Island as well.

The way I started structuring the new sub-forums was similar to how Craigslist does it - by major metro areas. So it would look like this: Tri-State Region > NYC DSM Forum and then another like Tri-State Region > Philadelphia DSM Forum... etc.

This way we don't have forum > sub-forum > sub-forum.
