Ok so im buying a 1g n/t with the 2.0 engine on monday and im extremely new to modding and actually being able to identify some minor problems(thanx to this forum).The only other car i have owned is a 2g rs wit the muffler cut off and an obx exhaust clamped on and a cai, and i blew the thing up.Im extremely nervous bout doing the same to this one, good thing i get a 4g63 this time. and i really just wanna know a few really common problems with these engines and how to identify them. And please keep in mind that im really new to this and dont understand some abbrv. so please no initials....LOL thanx
 
I know this thread is a bit old, but i have recently spent alot of time fixing my buddy's 1g N/T, First was the coolant Temp Sensor, the car will not start if it goes bad. Second, was his ECU, DSM's are know for having ECU problems so this shouldn't be a surprise. But finding an ecu for the 4G63A is not easy. Third, was the Timing Belt, now again, this shouldn't be a surprise, you should change it anyways, just for some piece of mind. He has also recently has a Lug Stud stip its splines off, so the lug nut just spin around in circles and we cant get the rim off, so now it has to be cut off with a torch, the parts guy at Mitsubishi said this is a more common occurrence even though i haven heard it before. I know its been a couple months but i hope this helps.
 
Like previously stated... The belts must be replaced (timing and harmonic balance) you can easily check the timing by taking off the cover on top. BUT the other little belt (harmonic balance) is rarely changed and hard to get to.
 
im confused your buying a 1g n/t but with a 4g63? can you clarify?
