Hey just got the paper and i have to go to one of these check only stations, now i have a question. will they trip off an SAFC and a A/F gauge in the car? i just ask because last dood at a reg. smog check told me to take that off ### it messes with the fuel system  and since check only from what i heard are even more dicks, i just wanted to know if anybody has had anything side to them by it? -Andy

They shouldn't, but the thing is it's kinda up to them. Test only smog places are usually by the book because of the regulations they have to abide by and the fact that smog-test is their only business unlike test&repair places. Majority of the time they worry about your physical engine itself, making sure you got all the vacums/pcv/etc. like any other smog place. I had a fuel controller in the car but it was inactive and went to a test only with no problems except for the "fuel filter used for a catch can" thing I had. What I hate is that if you fail at one test only you gotta go back to that same spot to re-test.

Good luck.

Id be more worried over you 02 dump on your mod list over the SAFC.

I just had mine done a couple of weeks ago, and i just put my stuff in my clove box during the test.

Messing with the fuel system is illegal in this lovely state, so unless you're lucky and get a nice guy, you probably won't pass with an SAFC. If I were you, i'd try to get it as close to stock as possible.

Andy, it MUST BE 100% stock. Turbo/full exhaust/SAFC/boost controller/intake EVERY THING GONE and stock. Trust me, they are cracking down on everything and its getting hard to find a shop that will just look past things.

well i am screwed don't have any stock parts only SMIC,and IC pipes, don't know where the rest of the parts are

Hit up the classifieds..

Well my car has mods on it, and had to go through test only smog. I didn't change a thing because I know it's all legal. Before they even test your car you can ask or they'll show you what's wrong. Try not to go to smaller test only centers.

Whatever you do, don't go to the one at that college on Winnetka in the valley (sorry forgot the name, I wanna forget everything about that shithole). The ####in kid there raped me, had to go back 4 times till he passed me.

They pick on every last little vacuum line. Problem is they didn't even tell me everything the first time, and picked on more stuff the second time. The third time they either doctored my HC or didn't let the cat heat up, but my hc, and only hc was through the roof. Whenever you get an emission test make sure your car is fully warm when you get there, and if they let it sit, make sure they warm it up before testing. Went back 4th time with no changes and passed. The idiot told me I had to fix it. WTF am I supposed to fix when it passes 3 out of 4 times??

You can give it a shot with your mods once, and kiss ass as hard as you can, but they'll probably just tell you to come back when it's completely stock. Tell them to tell you absolutely everything they want you to fix, or you'll inevitably miss something. Your vacuum lines must match the diagram on your hood.

How did you get a test only ticket? I hope I never get one of those again in my life. This one was to register a canadian car, no way around it.

find shady lookin place and give the guy 100 bucks, he will pass u no matter what...

I had to go back to back to a TEST ONLY station. They passed me w/ my UICP, side exit exhaust, and all my guages and turbo timer. The guys are pretty cool and only care about vaccum lines and smog related stuff. Like STEEL said it helps if you start up a conversation, (kiss some ass) and in my situation know how to speak Spanish.

hehe thats what my dad told me,go to a Hispanic shop, they can careless, just want the money, Well i am Salvie so it helps to find someone from the same country i guess

I have my SAFC hid in my center console...

I know a place that will "pass" you....PM me

Er, I get a 'test only' registration every other year... it's a PITA. Though I've heard that if you have a new engine put in, or your engine rebuilt, it counts as a 'new' car... giving you three years' slack.

I'm going to have to wait for next year to be certain, but the GSX didn't get a test-only rereg this year, and it just had a full rebuild.

Why did you have to do "test only" every time?

I'm just rebuilding my engine, what kind of documentation is required to get this 3 year slack?

Is your AFC permanently mounted in the dash? Can't you just tuck it under the seat or something. That's what I do every time I go to places like that. Gauges shouldn't be a problem. There is no regulation against them as far as I know but they attract unwanted attention and lead to further 'investigation' unfortunately. Side exit exhaust if you have it is ok too as long as the sistem contains a cat.

I tested on a TEST ONLY smog facility and I passed with an intake, boost controller, greddy BOV and my gauge pillar. It depends on which shop you go to and how strict the operator is.

I have AWD so I was not subject to a dyno test. Passed fine, but that was after I swapped my ECU with a 99 model.

i got the same problem bro, i put everything back to stock already except for my uicp, fpr, fuel pump, afc, and exhaust with high flow cat. basically the parts i couldnt replace. i set the fpr at 38 psi so i dotn think the fuel pump should affect smog. but for whatever reason my car is just not passing. the guy didnt even pop my hood but he did a quick test with the sniffer and told me it wasnt going to pass. i replaced my turbo today and Im going back tomorrow. i had a question though maybe someone can answer it for me. if i make the car leaner with the afc will that help it pass smog? i was gonna go like -15 with the stock injectors and pray to god that that helps in some way. is this a good idea?

so i just passed smog. it failed horribly the first time and this is what i did to make it pass. i switched back to a 1g maf, i retarted the timing a few degrees, i pumped out my 91 octane gas and replaced it with 2 gallons of 87 octane and added 1 pint of rubbing alcohol to it, put my afc to -5 accross the board on stock injectors and I also raised the idle from about 800 to 1050. hope this helps someone trying to pass smog.

A test-only center will fail you instantly for the idle bit. It's listed on the hood; 750 +-50rpm idle.

Also, running too lean will raise your nitrous oxides, and make you fail. The best way to pass? A stoich tune. Means you're burning as close to perfect as possible; the EGTs are low, so oxides will stay low. The AFR is good, so your hydrocarbons are being burned more completely. Only other problem is your carbon monoxides... get a cat temporarily if you don't have one, and make sure you run it for a week or two before going to the test-only.

A WBO2 and a good tuning solution will get you tuned and burning completely enough to pass most of the sniffer stuff, regardless of what you're running, if they don't fail you for visual inspection.

But you're in closed loop right? I don't think there's much you can do with the fuel as long as your o2 is cycling... Or am I missing something?

anybody know of a OBII port not working, the guy said mine isn't giving a signal,i did a search and it seems to be aftermarket radios but last time when beau put his logger in,it was doing fine,so is there a fuse to this crap

Are you running the stock ecu with no piggybacks? I know my ecu+ latches on to the obd2 port.

since we're all in cali, me being in norcal. Has anybody passed Test only with DSMLink and 660s with base FP (2G)? I would imagine it much easier now then when I was running an AFC. I passed with all the mods listed in my pro, except with AFC and I took my 660s out and put stock injectors back in. (0'd out afc). I tried to pass with the 660s/afc but I could not get it right. When I leaned it out, I would fail because it was running too lean, zeroed out would be too rich, I could not find an in between point, and we all know how piggy backs are, perhaps it just didnt want to cooperate at the time.

So those who passed with Link/660s what was your settings at? (BTW I have Denso 660s so I hear they flow a bit more than standard ones) Also 95s dont need to go through the OBDII testing, lucky me, no dyno test and OBDII test.
