I went to the local 1/8th mile track the other night for the first time since the 50 trim was installed. It was a little damp out, and as I figured traction was a bit of a problem, even feathering the throttle I managed to spin tires through 3rd gear most every run, pulling a best 60 ft time of 2.398, and this was with tire pressures low, back seat removed, and spare tire out of the trunk. I ran very tractionless high 8s most of the night, although I didn't lose any races the whole night, hehe. I raced a ford probe (with the 24v V6), camaro SS, camaro iroc w/ slicks, and my friends chevy lumina, the camaro SS was the closest race.
Back to my question... I obviously need something to better harness the power, but I am wondering if an LSD, slicks, or adjustable shocks would do the most for my 60 ft times. I'm just looking for some advice on where to start, thanks in advance.

I told my buddy with a GS-t to get an LSD and some drag radials. He listended to me and boy is he glad! He loves how well he can hook up! so, yeah, LSD and drag radials will do wonders! Almost as good as AWD, but not quite.
try here, chepest good LSD you can find. I have it in my AWD and love it. cheaper than Phantom grip, and as good or better.

Well, I definitely know the LSD will help you out the most. BM Tranny seems to be the best and inexspensive way to go. Slicks will help out a great deal too. But please get the LSD first (unless you have alot of spare clutches sitting around ;)

Here's my streetable plan to run 2.0's on street tires...
Tockio full soft in front, full hard in back.
Spring spacers in back to make sure she doesnt squat.
BM Tranny LSD insert.
Hardened motor mounts.
ACT 2100, ACT Flywheel.
Take all I can out of the trunk.
Wish I had a stutterbox.
Drive like hell.

Will be trying her soon.

So many people never do research as to why they/their car sucks at launching....that sux.

Slicks are your friend. I can pull low 1.8's all day w/ my puny 22 X 8 X 15 MT's. Only suspension mods I have is 2" dropzone springs, I also took all the BS on the trunk and removed the rear crash bumper. I can't wait to see what it does with a BM LSD insert. :thumb:

Wouldn't you want higher tire pressures with a slick track?

Actually, with a slick track you are trying to improve traction. So you actrually want to lower tire pressure. The reason is that when you lower the pressure, the tires have more rubber on ther ground. More tire on the ground equals more traction.
However, if you are autox or road racing or what not, then you would want a higher tire pressure than someone who drag races because your tire will be more stable, etc. and lower pressure puts more tire on the ground which does create more friction/resistance and can slow the car down some on a track.

The BMT Insert is great. Yea, it's not Quaife (or even better...Kaaz) but damn no wheelhop and it actually grabs! Now I just need to get rid of these damn idle problems/misfire problems.

Is it true that those inserts (phantom grip) break drive train parts. I am clueless on the subject but my buddy Jake Montgumry(evil eagle)said not to mess with them... he said to get true quaife LSD. is there a reason. Cause I would much rather spent 200$ than 800$!
THX:talon:

Phantom grip use too light spings in theirs liek 2 years ago...Things have changed (BMT uses the right springs).

so what all is needed for a lsd swap? im new to dsm stuff and i need to hookup. getting smoked by integras from the line, but catching up in the end. i need traction. i need LSD because there are no AWD for sale out here so its my next option.

Looking at your mods I would say you problebly dont need it yet! You dont need lsd until your spinning through 1st, 2nd, and into 3rd. You problebly need to learn to launch a fwd, which takes time. Its kind of a black art. :talon:

Do you even have an exhaust yet?

hahaha i spin in 1st - 3rd, i guess its time i get LSD eh?

And yes, dont go with the cheap LSD knockoff's, you will definately regret it down the road.

i regret buying my phanton grip. i bought one and had a friend who works for a transmission shop install it for me. he welded in the differential pin because he said once it is driven out it will eventually slowly work its way out w/ time and put a hole in the trani. over time the phantom slip will eventualy eat my differential. i can only imagine what kind of metel it is shredding off into my fresh synchro shift II i put in it.

if it wasn't such a pain in the ass to remove the transmission, open it ,pay him, and buy a new differential i would and buy a kaaz or a quaife. i even bought the phanton slip w/ the gold springs

it worked for a while when i first bought it. it would be really nice if it worked right now in the snowy indiana climate conditions right now.

i spin my tires through 1st and through 2nd on a 14b :thumbdown , a kaaz is in my future now :) and yes i also regret the phantom grip next to useless right now and i'm sure its just making differential soup slowly.

differential soup? something like this I suposse :thumb: :D

yup this is mine after a easy street tire run down the 1/8th mile

nope... everything was still intact.. the gears sheared off?? dunno why mad torque appeal :D

so do you think it had to do with the phantom grip at all, it doesn't look like it took any damage, almost more like something else came apart and got sent through your spider gears.

I dont know 100%. I do know the spyder gears are the only damaged thing internally so nothing else could have come through them..

I have heard from a couple of people it was the insert.. the spyder gears are meant to be floating gears, the insert seperates them and changes the whole meshing pattern. This in turn causes the gears to get hotter. But at the same time it is fairly common to break to differential once you are putting down some power so maybe it just lived a good 96,000 mile beaten life?

i dont get how the big pin comes out.....there is a smaller pin that goes through it which is then blocked my when you put the big gear back on top(i forget what it is called and dont feel like thinkin hard enough to remember it... at least on mine i would think it would be impossible for it to "wiggle its self loose"
