Ok, the evo 8's engine code is what? 4G63 right? Right, so the tranny from the older iron block 4g63 engine should mate to it, hopefully. If it does then I can put the factory tuned 271 Hp engine in my '93 eclipse. If anyone has proof that this is impossible without spending more than 3 grand on installion, please tell me cause I leave for boot camp in 3weeks and come back at christmas with enough money to do this if I have calculated right. so please give me you feed back.

Have you looked under the hood of an EVO 8?? If not you should. It will answer all your questions.

besides, why would you waste the money on this swap? they're both 4g63, so you basically (except for a few minor differences) have a evo 8 engine in your car. it'd be more cost effective to just spend the money on the swap to rebuild your engine, and buy the necessary mods to make the same horsepower without the headache of trying to make an evo 8 engine fit (wiring issues). just food for thought.

If you had a 95 or newer the wiring is virtually identical. And a 99 has the motor in the correct configuration. But a 4g63 is still a 4g63, why not get the EVO valve cover and 16g and just tell people you have the EVO swap. :D

uhh, the 99' does NOT have the same engine configuration of the evo8. The 99's engine configuration is the same as all 2g's (except for minor differences such as the CAS) All in all, the evo8 engine will NOT fit without major fabrication.

as they said above..Since the engine is turned 180 dgrs it will be a major PITA to make it work..but I am sure it can be done..with enough money and time..as everything else in life..It can be done.I wouldnt do it though.

wtf... i knew something was not right. i was looking at this months jc whitney catalog and they have a 2g with a turbo engine and they FLIPPED the engine!?? i swear the damn thing is in there backwards. the cam gears, master cylinder, etc are to the pass side and battery, intake, etc is on the drivers side! must have been photoshop or something, i figured it was a 99 eclipse instead...

sure it was'nt a 420a that thought it was a 4g63?

Sounds like "Flip Horizontal" that can be done in just about any graphic editing software.

Those "minor differences" are expensive internal upgrades. The EVOVIII engine is built to handle the 19 psi stock boost level. It's a much stronger engine than the one found in DSM's. They are only the same in name and displacement. I do agree however that money would be better spent on a bigger turbo, intercooler, etc. than a very expensive swap.

Forget about whether the cam gears are on the wrong side. just do a custom job and make it RWD :p

Any 4g63t can easily handle 19psi from a 16g with supporting mods the rod measurments are not that much differant than a 1g 6 bolt. i will take my 6bolt,$3,000 1g over a 30,000 family wagon.could you imagine a 1g with 27,000 in mods could you say monster!!!

Wouldn't that be super crazy tite though yo...I mean wow, its an EVO8 engine...those are just mad fast and tite yo...it would be sick as a mad tite cow...yo

it's a nice motor in the 8.. but my setup allows me to slowly pull on an Evo.. that is from a roll.. i couldn't do it from a dig.

all i really have that made a difference in my motor is a small 16g and 3'' turbo back exhaust.

LOL, and my 16g is burning up(literally).. still pull on every Evo 8 i race. Save the 3k and spend it on supporting mods and a small turbo upgrade.

If you whould be able to install an Evo VIII engine, you'll need more than just make it fit on the bay, what about harness, ECU a bunch of sensors apart from the engine, I mean i'm not saying this is imposible, but I guess It will just be easier if you have an EVO VIII Donor car to do the full swap, this means lots of cash, why dont just go with has already been done and 100% eficient, like a 6 bolt block, Big16G, and supporting mods, this is more than enough, and you'll make even more power... then again the idea of beeing diferent than the rest is good, but very hard IMO.

i agree with modding the 6 bolt. Besides the evo's run 17 to 19 PSI stock, what DSM wouldn't be just as fast with that many PSI stock? think about it, the 2G's are 12 PSI stock and have 210HP, each PSI is around 7 to 9 HP roughly, so, lets do the math, with 7 probably being a respectable HP level per PSI: 7 times 7 (difference in stock boost)= 49 HP and as many as 63 if all goes well. so, in all that means a 2G with 19 PSI has around 259 to 273 HP . Now everyone see why they aren't that much different w/ the exception of 2 more doors and a little bit different weight ratio?

You really should read up on the Lancer EVO one day. Calling it a $30K family wagon shows how little you really know about the car.

heyt just to toss this out, in the last issue od SCC i think, in one of the rally articles they were talking about an evo VI. apparently they used an eclipse crankshaft and bearings in a pikes peak car. so we probly can use internals. an actual engine would be nice.

only thing i want outa a dang evo8 is that steering wheel....

i love that thing sat in it at the dealership feels really nice.

Evo8?JDM?Why bother? For what it would cost you to put an evo8 engine in, you could have a faster(than evo8)dsm.
