My car is mostly stock, so I am just speculating. I believe the best choice for my 2G is the big T28 Killer turbo for my goal of 400hp. I have also been considering the SBR 2g20G turbo w/ a TD06 housing. Based on experience , which turbo would be the best at producing 400+ hp?
( I do plan on all the supporting mods before I purchase the turbo )

The 20g would be the best choice, unless you want to go even bigger.

A green would be a pretty good choice too. Or maybe even an agp l2r or fp 30series.

You didnt list a budget, but it is easier to let the turbo make most of the hp instead or relying on a whole lot of other mods and tuning.

yea, that is kinda funny, tuning is everything, you can have a 500hp turbo and without proper supporting mods and alot of tuning it will still be pretty slow

as far as i know a t28 isnt capable of making 400hp, maybe 350-375 with every supporting mod you can think of and weeks of tuning

a 20g on the oither hand will easily make 400hp at the crank, actually it will easily make 400 hp at the wheels, but your not going to be able to just slap a 20g on like you could a t28, a 20g will require alot of supporting mods just to be driveable, and internal engine work is recomended for a 20g if you want to run a high boost setting, but if you dont mind spending a thousand or so on supporting mods then your good to go

i would recomend that you get the real 20g and a 2g install kit instead of the 2g one with the t3 parts swaped onto it to make it bolt right up, and get an external wastegate(most people i know with a 20g have an external gate, iv yet to meet anyone with an internal gated 20g thats happy with it)

and jdmawd, about the car in that link you gave, how do u consider 26 psi a low boost setting? i mean 392 awhp is pretty impressive regardless but its not all that high for being at 26 psi on race gas

um it was 24 psi and considering he had a warped leaking exhaust, manifold and did not reach full boost until 5K. then dynoed the car with zero tuning, 39xHP pretty impressive.

 please get a clue

Thanks for the info! I was just concerned because I don't want to drop 900$ on a turbo and then have to go out and spend another 1000$ because the one I got doesn't meet my needs anymore. Would the SBR 20G require an installation kit for oil or water lines or is a direct bolt in?

Damn that get a PTE 50 trim, a green or full garrett 50 trim setup. Your goals will be easier on a larger turbo.

400whp ? Dream on... your best bet is a real td06 20g and that will probably get you around 300-350whp at high boost and that's with all the supporting mods such as fmic, injectors, afc/emanage/whatever, fuel pump and the other more basic shit. Engine work shouldn't be necessary for a 20g, but I would recommend it if you plan on getting the most out of it. (well at least some cams for the head...).

And a T28 Killer ? Please... you'd be lucky to get 250hp at the wheels with that crap.

We recently finished building a 1g with a td06 20g and dealing with mike huml i can tell you that his is a nice setup. one of the only Int. gated 20g's thathas worked ok. We ran a 12.7 @105 on it. we are yet to dyno but we have no doubt that it will put down over 400......

car:
93 tsi
20g
Our FMIC kit
Thermal Exhaust
injectors
F. pump
AFC
ACT 2600
and all other minor mods.

now this was with a 2.1 60' :)o )

go 20g. you wont regret it......

hope this helps. feel free to let me know if you have any questions.....

btw....ricardo....

the last time we ran a big28 it dynoed 322whp....so it is doable. needs more supporting mods but for sleeper...and moderately affordable turbo you cant go wrong.....still recommend the 20G:thumb:

I have a big28 and impressively enough I did a 106 pass with it, it's not a bad turbo, but he said t28 Killer not big28 and whenever I see a turbo that says "Killer" in its name I just have to make fun of it.

And yes, td06 20g, hands down best turbo. :dsm:

With that trap speed that car oughtta be awd so I don't think dyno numbers will be so great, let me know what do you get...

I dont think a 106 trap is going to be 400whp. Ed's big 16g trapped at 108 and I currently have the turbo and I dont think I am going to be anywhere near 400whp. More like 300whp at 20+psi.

Thats pretty damn impressive, not calling bullshit but thats the highest WHP I have seen out of a big28. Was any n20 involved with that run?

For 400whp, your best bet is going to be a 50 trim.

I have almost the same exact setup as JDMAWD's link except 264 intake cam instead of the 272. I made 395 HP at 22PSI. Get the 50 trim or the 20g if this is the goal you really want to hit. Just don't expect to slap it all together though and get that number:thumb:

boostineklipz...we will be puttin in the cams before the dyno session and we will bedoing a lot of tuning. (none at all yet) also the run was on 17psi so we plan to go to about 22-24 psi for the run so we are keepin our fingers crossed......and our 28 run was a nicely built 2g. cams. ported and polished 1g head and im talkin fully built head so he was running damn close to 26psi. kinda blew up his block while running a TT supra. not a bad way to ......:thumb: and no N20.....a lot of people arent willing to put the time into the 28. i am not a big fan of it myself but like i said for a sleeper you cant really go wrong........

That makes more sense:thumb:

I would have boosted 26psi on my t28 but the BOV wouldn't handle it. I was planning on modding the bov to make it hold 30psi but now I'm selling the car, so to hell with it.

The big t28 is not a bad turbo like people say its inneficient over 20psi, that's bullcrap! However, a 20g is a lot better and just a few bucks more expensive... so might as well get one ;)

yea, ok jdm, i have a clue, i know 2 people making around 400 wheel hp on ported 20g turbos on pump gas, well over 400 whp on race gas, and both of them run boost in the low 20 range(on pump), and neither car uses nitrous
you try and contradice me as if u have a 20g and have any idea how much power they can make, u need to get a clue, iv seen the dyno sheets to prove how much power it can make when properly set up and tuned

Really? Name them, there are very few people in MD that are making that type of HP, and the one that are have full Garrett 50 trim setups or GT30's I happen to know a few of them personally. So if they live in MD name them. Im sick of reading your BS baseless totally false posts. You do not need a built motor to make 400HP.

so start naming names:thumb:
