I just read on the DSMLink group that they have transplanted a 2G ECU into a 1G and it works. There is still hope for all you 1G guys. ;)

Stay tuned for the VFAQ to show how to do the swap.

All you 1g guys may wanna keep and eye on the site for it's release.

umm what about the sensors in the 1G engine? They dont respond as quick as the 2G correct? so wouldn't the 2G ECU think there is a problem when theres not (becouse of the lag in the signal) ???

Just reformat them, they will be OK.

Actually, you can use signal boosters.

You get one free with each ticket to the movie 2F/2F that you buy.

LOL...leave him alone y'all. And, Ed, I was just playin ;)

I would imagine that you would have to also install a 2G MAF if you did not already have one. You would no longer be able to retreive knock count readings. Add the cost of that into the new ECU, then the price of the dsmlink itself. That would just about pay for a Haltech

Whatever, You haven't contributed even a slight bit of useful information and if this is typical of your posts, i doubt you ever have. I never claimed to be an expert.

DSMLink allows 2G owners to see knock, same as a 1G can. And Hal is the guy doing the swap into the 1G. Im sure he will post the info once he has it all assembled. As long as you guys quit being mean, that is;) He does a lot for the DSM community, like the Palm software for DSMLink.

Brad

It is assembled (in prototype form), and it works pretty nice.

As a side note, the 2g ECU pinout diagrams @ www.vfaq.com have a couple of things wrong, and are missing a few others.

You know i was being serious... from what i know this is true so wouldn't you have to replace the sensors or something?

If you understood how DSMLink works, you would understand why you don't NEED anything but 1x16.

You need a 2g MAF and a 2g knock sensor.

But the bullshit about 1g sensors being slower is just that, bullshit.

Hal

If I'm wrong correct me, don't be an ass about it, that's all I ask. I don't own a 2G myself so I've never experienced the problem. The knock issue was something I read in the past that was a problem with 2G's. Maybe it was something else, but I was under the impression that it could be read by the ECU but would not viewable? This is going to drive me crazy until I find it. I think TMO's site said something to that effect....I'll look for it again. If any of this sounds familiar please say something...

I have heard it is hard to read knock with a 2g. most loggers don't do it. i'm not sure why. DSMlink is the only logger I have heard of that can read knock from a 2g.

so if i'm reading this right, there isn't going to be a DSMlink made just for 1g's? it's only going to be a "hack". you have to get a 2gmas and sensor. what about another MAS, like the GM mas. will that work just as good?

Yes, you can use the GM MAF with a 2g MAFT for the ECU swap.

As far as a "true" 1g DSMLink goes, only the guys at ECMTuning can answer that question.

Before you tax what few brain cells you have, think about this:

Do you know what DSMLink is?

Obviously not. So, before you spread your "knowledge" any more, please visit www.dsmlink.com and educate yourself on the subject at hand.

I wouldn't want you to spend any time digging up information that isn't applicable to the topic at hand.
