God i am sooooooo P|ssed off right now, you guys have no idea! alright brace yourself, i was driving back to school tonight 10:30, everything was going good, then i find my exit ramp, im pulling off of it, and i downshift and go into the corner, all going good, then there is this "clunk clunk" and then a loud "BAM!" all of the sudden my car starts flying all over the road tires screaming and smoking, i almost take out a lightpole and finally come to a stop on the side of the road, and i just let out a huge FOCK!, anyways i thought my transfercase locked up the entire time, the car woulnt move at all, my marks are like 100 ft long, but when the towtruck showed up i started getting scared as they were winchin it up ontop the bed, the front wheels turned freely, but the backs were locked, the car was in nuetral, parking break off, so then i started thinking the rear end went out...... not good, alot of money i dont have to spend!, anyways to all of you guys who have had a transfer case lock up on them is it possible for the back to be locked and not the front? or did my rear end just go up? i really hope its the transfer case, then it will be free to fix, but things arnt looking so bright right now.... any help?

God i hate my dsm right now....

Don't hate, you lived! ;)

Sounds like a classic t-case lockup to me!!! All except for the collision with a guard rail or the 20 car pileup... LOL.

Yes, the t-case locks only the back, although the front will still skid because of the VC when your car is moving at driving speeds.

You can pull the t-case drain plug to verify that the oil is all burned and smelly, and that there isn't really much left in there. Further, you'll probably find all the missing oil on the underside of the car near wherever it leaked out. Otherwise, pull the drive shaft and turn the rearend by hand (brake off!).

Anyway, I just had my t-case and driveshaft yoke replaced a month ago. If you have a decent dealer around, it's pretty painless.

I'd consider yourself very lucky you didn't wad that thing up at 70 mph or something!

glad to hear you're still alive. I know sometimes you feel like dying when your car gets f*cked. But in the end its better your car then you.

Maybe it was fate? I got into a wreck in my acura, and i thought it was the end of the world....then my DSM came into my life, and it has changed me for the better.

Good luck with fixing the car....You can probably find a used t-case for cheap, no big deal.

Definitely go talk to the dealer about this. If you had the 6/60 or 6/100 drivetrain warranty you may still be covered. Make sure that they replace your tires as well if they got flatspotted while you were sliding.

This is a safety recall item!!! They will replace a damaged transfer case regardless of the miles on the car. They will also fix it if it leaks. They are required to do so for the life of the car. I just had mine REPLACED a month ago at over 160,000 miles. There is a sticky on this in one of the forums.

im pretty sure they would still replace it under a safety recall for free even if it has locked up ask them about the recalls for your car a t case new could cost 2 grand better free then spending money
