I have a 92 talon 2L non turbo I have pacesetter headers and a hi flow exhust I went for my emissions test and failed on NOx reading 1182 can anyone tell me how to reduce this # my car has 100,000 kms 60,000 miles they tell me my car is burning hot (combustion chamber) any ideas out there thanks:confused::mad:

A MAS reading too little air could make the engine lean, or a clogged fuel filter, bad injector or fuel pressure reg, old O2 sensor, or EGR valve that's kaput. Those are just quick suggestions. Possibly a bad plug or plug wires also.

I beat you!!!! I failed inspection two weeks ago for high NOx. It was 2016!!... and that was with new wires and plugs, a cleaned out throttle body, totally clean and perfect EGR, a cat that's less than two years old, and a bottle of 'super-duper emissions helper' stuff dumped into the fuel tank!!! I need to get it down to 1088 to pass.
Also, my CO% read 0.78 and the limit to pass is 0.79!!!! [A real squeeeeeeker!!]

What's my next step??

Yes but I did a retest cold 2312 co% 0.01 hc ppm 12 #### tire is replacing thermo valve + purge engine they say there is carbine deposits cost $400cnd this better work!!!!! wow 1088 to pass here it 501 NOx to pass.

Emission standards are more strict for '92s than '91s, but still Canada seems outrageously tight on their #s!!
Yes, I have stock everything.
I'm letting a mechanic look at the car so that I can be ripped off accordingly... to pass [I hope]!
ps... You blew it --> "Dam" is "Damn"!! No prize for you!!!!!

Yes, the primary cause for high NOx is a faulty EGR, but mine is doing fine and the reading is still twice the limit!

NOX emissions are a result of high temperatures in the combustion chamber. The EGR valve works to reduce combustion temps by recirculating exhaust gases back into the intake. This seems counter-intuitive, but the introduction of an inert gas into the combustion chamber effectively lowers combustion temps by a good deal. So if the problem is not with your EGR valve, it's likely caused by carbon deposits in the engine which retain heat between each combustion. Use some Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner (not hard at all) to remove the carbon from your piston tops.

How are your coolant temps? Are they higher than normal when idling?

Chris

Temp is normal, just like always. A mechanic told me that high cylinder temp causes NOx to increase... and said that carbon build-up may be the problem. I'm glad you confirmed this!!
Is this cleaner stuff really easy to use [as in little or no tools and ability - 'cause that's me!]?
