I just took off the T28 and threw on the 16g yesterday and let me tell you. It seemed like a whole new world. All i hear is everyone saying that the big T28 is comparabe to the 16G. It seems like the 16G holds boost so much better i am so much happier with the 16G. The swap went really smoothly, and i just wanted to let your guys know how much difference there really is, because i always hear people comparing them and i just wanted you guys to hear from someone who has actually had them both and experienced them first hand.

The 16 take just a split second longer to spool. I actually love the longer spool time sine i am FWD. It was a great change. And yeah it was the Big28.

Did you do the switch with no other modification changes? Can you please elaborate on the difference?

Thank you

Darryl

I did the change with no other modifications and my buddy logged it before and after. With the 16G we were able to turn the boost up more and with the same type results logged. I can run higher boost on the 16G with no knock. I guess it is just more efficient and doesn't heat the air as much. The reason i changed though is because i had a friend who had purchased the 16G + and install kit, and decided that he didn't think that he would be able to figure out how to put it on. He had mentioned just selling that setup and buying a BigT28 so it would be easier to install. So I told him that if that was the only reason he was gonna do it then i might be interested in working out some sort of deal and trading him mine. So he gave me $200 and the 16g and install kit for my Big28 and me helping him install it. He was hellbent on installing it himself ( i am actually kind of proud of him even though almost any performance shop around here would have put it on for the $200 bucks he gave me).

I would very much be interested in see both of those logs! Could you post them?

I don't have them because the guy that ran them owns our local performance shop and he did them for me. I did however look at them and i will try to get him to e-mail them to me if he gets a chance. I was suprised at the difference.

Thanks for the info.
I thought it was common knowledge the 16G had better top end than a T28. I bought my T28 for the quick spool up. And on that, it kicks the 16G in the ass, IMHO. I've driven both.

If your getting a T28 for drag racing, I think your getting the wrong turbo. If lag is important to you, and you want 12s, it's a nice turbo.

-Happy T28 user.

:)

The problem is, is the fact that those little "bigT28" brand turbo's do not like running at low boost. Sure, they will run at low boost, but they're not at their most efficient state, which is over 20 psi. Considering you said you were getting knock on the T28, it sounds like you don't have a lot of fuel tuning equipment or a front mount? It takes those to really wring out the potential.

Anyways, whatever floats your boat. I just want to get rid of this stupid Mitsu turbine housing so I can run full out Garret GT series. ;)

small 16g or Big16g(sounds like your are talkin about the small).

the B16G was what I was going with at first, but i'm only trying to have a low 13sec daily driven fwd, the 28 can get me there. when I get bored of it I may upgrade again.

you got a good deal, that $200 install kit was an issue for me.
enjoy your 16g you SELLOUT!!! j/k :)

I would think that the bigger compressor housing would cause the charged air to heat up less for each psi. I wonder how the bigT28 killer would compare to the 16G because they both use bigger compressor housings.

I'm curious how it compares as well. I believe the T3 AiResearch compressor housing the Killer uses is slightly bigger than the TD05H housing on the 16G. But it also uses the big16G wheel, so it needs all housing it can get.

look at the bottom of his sig. It says that he's using the big 16g. It's not on his profile yet though.

Kinda off the subject ... but while you are talking about those two turbos... We can put that same T-3 Garrett compressor housing on your 16G , Big16G, 18G so you do not have to run a J-pipe on your 2G .Just think of a
XXG turbo with that compressor housing on it. I would also be interested in seeing those logs if you could salvage them .
Thanks
Wade
