when you use the test pipe to replace the cat isnt there a o2 sensore there and throws a check engine light on ?? it would be on a 2g

Yes there is a sensor there, that is really not needed for anything. most all 2g ds,ers dont have one. Yes the CEL, stays on, sometimes it will go off after a while sometimes it wont. Some people leave it wired up just not in the exhaust and that works for them. It will not effect driveability at all. So in other words forget about it

Some cars don't even get the CEL. I know as soon as I say this I will get one, but I haven't had one in the 4-5 months I've had my cat removed. From what I've read, some cars throw a light, some don't. If yours does, though, there's a couple things you can do-- remove the rear O2 from the socket and plug the socket with a spark plug and let the sensor hang in the air, or get a relay from Casper's Electronics that bypasses the sensor and makes the ECU think everything's fine.

I've had a test pipe installed for about 3 months now and have never once seen a CEL. I wouldn't worry about it.

Crankwalk has noting to do with the cel light not comeing on from replaceing the cat. Where did you find or hear this info under newbeees.

My car didn't get a CEL from having a test pipe till I threw in 660's. My guess is it was running so rich between shifts that the ECU figured something was very wrong.


My advice is to pull the o2 sensor out of the cat-back, and just pull it back up into the passenger compartment under the driver's seat. I wrapped mine in alum. foil for some reason, I don't remember why.

No more CEL, as for the hole in your exhaust.... most car parts stores should stock a "o2 sensor hole plug" -- threads are 18x1.5 if I remember correctly.

If having a CEL doesn't bother you, then don't worry about the above statment.




The job of the rear o2 sensor is to check for a CAT, that's it.

The primary o2 sensor (front) is what affects driveability, and mpg.

So then it doesn't cause your car to run rich? My last car started running like sh!t when my O2 sensor went bad, it was missing and sputtering and what not. When I disconnected it on a temporary basis it was running rich as all hell. Wouldn't this be the same situation or am I missing something?

The one in your cat-back only checks for a cat.

Test pipe on my car never tripped the CEL.

Seriously though 95's had sooo many different revisions to the software that some will never see a CEL reguardless, where others can have a cat on the car and still get a CEL (over sensative).


If your one of the unfortunate people who get a CEL, best thing to do is to remove the rear o2 sensor from the cat-back and plug the hole..... then place the o2 sensor under the driver's seat.

It was in my cat-back, my last car didn't have an O2 sensor housing.

I'm pretty sure all DSMs have an O2 sensor housing-- that is, somewhere to mount the front O2 sensor. Even if you have an O2 eliminator downpipe, you still have to have a place to put the O2 sensor.

The car I'm referring to, being the car I owned prior to my eclipse, wasn't a DSM.

Well alrighty then.

Maybe you should mention that up front next time so as to keep everybody on the same page. I'm sure I wasn't the only one that was confused.
