I am going to be changing my oil this week and seen a few things that you put in your oil right before you change it and let the car idle with it in it for 5-10min and then drain the oil. It is supposed to clean out the engine and should help with lifter tick. Has anyone used any of this stuff? Does it work? Pros and cons? Thanks guys!

Eh. If you have lifter tick, and it's at all severe, there are lifter cleaners that can work wonders. But an engine in good health seldom needs engine flush.

Some folks on here swear by Lucas.

And, for reasons I still haven't discovered, DSM motors seem to really enjoy Rislone's RESTORE. Beats me.

I'm not a fan of additives. But then, I don't see the point of using synthetics on the street, so go figure.

The floodgates are now open.

I owned my car an entire year before I ever tried Lucas. I always changed my oil every 2,000 miles and it was never low, not even 1/16 of an inch below the mark on the dipstick.

I decided to try Lucas because I had heard great things about it. The one time I used it I put in 4 quarts of Castrol GTX and a half quart of Lucas. I went to change my oil after the usual 2,000 mile interval and it was 1/4 of a quart low.

This was about a year ago and now my car burns damn near an entire quart of oil every 2,000 miles. I will never use Lucas again. I dont know if it was one hell of a coincidence or what, but I refuse to ever stick that goop of sh## in my engine ever again. It is outrageously expensive too,

I sure would like to know how my oil consumption would be if I never used that sh##. But if no one else has had this problem, its gotta be one hell of a coincidence.

I bought my Laser with 97k on it. Ran great for about 3003k miles. During that time I swore by Rislone's RESTORE, using it at every oil change. It would always solve the lifter tick that seemed to creep up out of nowhere, everytime an oil change was needed. NEVER EVER had to add oil to the engine the entire time in between changes. I even drove the car from southwestern Pennsylvania, to New York City in one day and did not have to add any oil.

Then I decided to try that Lucas shit.

My car was never the same after that. The ran like total crap, sputtered and just felt like it had lost a good bit of power. I drained that stuff after liek 500 miles and went back to Rislone's RESTORE. This did not help. Car kept burning oil. I had to add about 1/2 quart every 200 miles.

Things continued to go downhill from there. I blew two exhaust valves and cracked a cam gear going down the interstate, with a light load at liek 65mph.

After getting thos valves and the cam gear replaced. The dipstick started popping out and oil blew out heavily. Oil came out of the valve cover vent real heavy too, blowing it back into the intake.

I am not saying that the Lucas stuff caused me to break the cam gear adn exhaust valves, but it definetly made my car burn adn leak oil like cracy. It REALLY made it run like crap too. Before the Lucas oil change and after are like night and day. There is no way that I can believe that this was coincidence.

cleaning it for 10-15 minutes before you change it shouldnt do anything bad, the problem is with the detergents in some of that stuff...its not that it makes your car leak oil, it just makes the leaks apparent...same thing with synthetic oil....the detergent cleans up the natural clogs and seeps through the hole that was already there but plugged by the thick molecules in natural oil
